Just had the most SURREAL experience of my life.

At the beginning of lunch I randomly got a bad nosebleed (the first one I’ve ever gotten?), but I have students who eat lunch in my room and they were concerned about me so I’m like “I’m fine!” and started trying to deal with it quickly and quietly.

So I’m sitting at my desk with blood on my hands, a wad of bloody paper towels pressed to my nose, when suddenly I hear a tiny voice go “Miss? When did you first figure out you liked girls?”

One of the students chose that exact moment to have a questioning/coming out conversation with me. And like, for a lot of my kids I’m the only safe adult they can talk to about that topic, so I wasn’t about to brush them off. Instead I sat there and had a very sweet conversation about identity discovery while actively and profusely bleeding all over myself.
