Tutorial: Adding Enemies To A Map!

NOTE: This tutorial assumes you already know how to make enemies in the database, and have done so.

Summary: An easy tutorial explaining how to add singular enemies to walk around your map, remove them once they've been killed, and then respawn once you re-enter the area. The next tutorial will discuss how to add troops / multiple enemy battles to your map.

Also, take this as an apology for not working on this blog at all recently. I haven't been very RPG Maker-oriented as of late. But summer break is fast approaching, and once it does, I'll be working on trying to get new tutorials or find and/or make new resources!

RPG Maker VX Ace is currently Pay What You Want, starting at $1! After paying additional amounts ($6 and $12), you unlock more programs. The $6+ tier includes RPG Maker XP!

The bundle also comes with several RPG Maker DLC Packs, and RPG Maker games, including in the first tier Skyborn. (And if you like the games, make sure to buy additional copies for your friends from the creators themselves - the one shame about this package is money lost by Indie Game developers, and I can't in good conscience recommend that.)

There are four days left! Go forth and make and play games!

Long ago, a group of eight demons (The Octet of Destruction) and their servants attacked the planet where the four universal powers (Life, Death, Space, Time) lived to gain control over the universe. They were defeated and sealed away in the Beyonds, a place full of mystery and where the Universal Spirit lived. Now, they have escaped and plan on trying to take over the world again.
The four universal powers send their warriors/protectors to collect eight ancient artifacts that will reseal the Octet of Destruction in the Beyonds. The warriors are Rietta of Life, Raven of Death, Mercury of Space, and Evangelise of Time.
The group must battle the demons' servants to collect the artifacts that they are hiding and protecting. By defeating the servants, you weaken the head demon's army, though at one point, Evangelise must break off from the group and go on a quest by herself...
In the end, the fate of the world will be decided in a battle between the Octect of Destruction and the warriors.

Tutorial: Mapping Walls - pt. 1

So, a friend of mine wanted help on mapping walls inside rooms. It can be hard to get things to look right in the beginning, but once you get started and get the hang of it, it's a really easy concept.

With that, let's get started on Part 1: The Back Wall!

You know what frustrates me? The fact that RPG Maker XP's default graphics are all white. So have four recolors I'm using in my own game. I'll probably post another batch soon/eventually.

Breaking it Down: Sprites

It's been ages since I've posted, so here's a basic not-quite tutorial about how RPG Maker XP's sprites work.

ATTENTION: LOOKING FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE EXPERIENCED WITH USING RPG MAKER. If you’re not one, please signal boost! I’d really like to find someone to work with!

If you are one, please read!

I (Miikpah) am working on a small indie RPG game, called Pigment. It has a very surreal feeling about it, and is inspired by Off, wreCK, and WEGF music. It won’t be very long, but the story is close to my heart, and I already have a small team for it being made.

Here is some things about the game:

—-

Plot -

A young student Angeli, Meeka, who is failing her guidance classes is thrown to the task of restoring the worlds color after all of the colors in the world completely desaturated without a trace. With the lack of support from her instructor, and many disadvantages hanging on her shoulders, she tries her best to succeed at the task given to her and Prove her worth.

Meeka - Protagonist (Angeli)

Born black and white, an outcast of her kind. Her wings are upside down and she appears to have no Ingenium. She’s quiet and keeps to herself. Long white hair, black 5 black horns. (one unihorn, two smaller on each side of her head). She wears striped shirt and shorts, and a Mano is seen around her head. She wears a line with Xs for eyes

Some Terminology

Angeli - Protector Race
Winged humanoids with special abilities who reside in the clouds. They live long lives and are usually born in bursts of color. They are guardians over color and the world. Each Angeli are born with an Ingenium of which turns into their later career.
Pallets - Mid Citizen Race
Human-like citizens, they are born with no color and grow into their color. They can choose their professions, though they don’t usually befriend Angli.
Blots - Lower Citizen Race
Animal-like beings with small and simple minds. They are addicted to color and possessions. They have a very short life span and breed like rabbits. They often befriend Pallets. They are born in one color and stay like that their whole life.

That’s some of the basic information. If you get on the project, you’ll of course get a lot more information on the project.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED; PLEASE SEND ME A FANMAIL OR ASK.

We already have a good amount of artist, pixel and not, However, IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN DRAWING OR VOICE ACTING FOR THE PROJECT, YOU SHOULD ALSO SEND ME AN ASK.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

thanks for finding so many good resources! the fact that rmxp's so old means that loads of the sites are gone and the hyperlinks are broken, so it's nice that someone's archiving all this stuff. and i can't wait to see the stuff you do with this! keep up the good work!

Oh, it’s not a problem!

I know, I just looked back at some of the old ones I used to use and they’re not running any more. It’s more than a little disappointing, but luckily, there’s still a lot of good resources out there.

Thank you very much! :D

Tutorial: Importing Graphics

My original plan was to start with the very basics, however, a friend of mine wanted help with this specifically, and so I figured I may as well make a post for it!

I'll be teaching you how to important a graphic, using a tileset as an example.
