Why is there no White Lives Matter? Why is there no Straight Pride? Why does International Women's day get more attention than the men's day?
The answer to these is quite simple.
Amongst other things, these events are primarily for remembering and acknowledging the struggle that black people, the LGBTQIA+ community from the past had to face to get where they are at the moment. It is also a way of reminding everyone that the struggle is not yet over. They are also for the celebration of the successes thus far and that despite all odds, society is slowly heading towards equality.
ALL lives matter. That is one of the messages these movements are trying to remind humanity.
Without people actively pursuing for equality, slavery would still be the norm in the west, the LGBTQIA+ community will continue to face maltreatment at the institutional level, women will still be unable to vote etc.. the list goes on and on
These movements are still needed because let’s be realistic here, there are still problems. Black people are more likely to be victims of police brutality and this needs to be addressed. Employers can still fire people in some parts of the world on the basis of their sexuality and gender identity even though these have no bearing on one’s ability to work. Women’s reproductive rights are still being controled at a government level. Transwomen are more likely targeted for attacks in public. The problems go on and on
There in not one point in history when white people, men, straights and cisgenders have been denied their rights by a government. Not one.
There is no government at the moment that actively discriminates against white people, men, straights and cisgenders. Not one.
There is no society that treats white people, men, straights and cisgenders as pariahs and lesser. Not one.
White people, men, straights and cisgenders never have to and never had to fight for their rights at a massive scale against a system that actively treats them as lesser.
So there is absolutely no point for White Lives Matter, straight pride or any nonsense of the like.
