I hate the “open floor plan” that everyone is obsessed with in houses now. I want nooks and crannies and bizarre floor plans. I don’t need to be able to see what someone is doing on the other side of the house. I want places to hide and lurk and dwell in the shadows. I am the beast who awaits in the labyrinth

it’s sooo funny when rude customers encounter employees who can deny them service for the first time.

i was working at a little cafe where I could deny service over bad behavior, harassment etc. & mask mandates had just ended a week before & already people were being weird about me still wearing mine—an N95, the kind shaped kinda like a duckbill.

so this man walked in, looked at me sooo scathingly, laughed at me, and said “damn. never known a woman to choose…practicality over looks.”

And I just said, “oh. you can go, you’re not getting a drink.” And he said, “what???”

I said, “sir, you just walked in at 6 am & called women impractical and me ugly in one sentence.”

And he was so astonished he didn’t even argue he just turned around and left 💀🙏🏻 it was like he suddenly became self aware

i work at a grocery store in portland and it is rough. but one of the perks is that anytime someone says something fucked up, we are encouraged to get them out of the store asap

(bc more likely than not they're going to escalate from there and with our location it's impossible to determine who's a karen and who's on fentanyl based on one crazy statement, so it's best practice to get them escorted out of the store asap).

but sometimes it takes security a minute to get there. once, around christmas, some dude started bitching about how i was bagging his groceries so i said he was welcome to bag them himself and he started cursing at me so i said what happened over the radio and told the guy "yeah you can leave im not dealing with this" and took his items to put back on the shelf.

and today some guy was asked by a coworker to show his ID and the guy started yelling that she was fired and "get me the deed, this is MY fucking store bitch" and security had to chase him around for five minutes before they could heard him out the door.

every cashier should be able to deny service due to disrespect/feeling threatened, i think it would make the world a better place
