Leonard shook his head with a small laugh, “You’re a big baby sometimes,  Jim.”

He still held him close though, and felt a small warmth curling in his chest when Jim nuzzled at his neck. No matter what, Leonard couldn’t think of anything about Jim that he didn’t like. Sure, he was stubborn - weren’t they both? And his reckless nature was more of a worry than anything else - and they were working on it. Together.

"Nu-uh." He retorted- he couldn't have sounded more of a baby if he'd tried. "Just don't like eating on my own."

No doubt Bones already knew that. They'd confessed all everything they had to confess to each other a long time ago; they'd been sharing the burden for a while. He didn't mind saying things like that to Bones anymore, because now he knew why. There were a lot less questions when they were both in the know.

"It is a simple request, Captain. Your tone implies that it is something else."

"Simple request, sure. You know it's not my fault that Starfleet-issued shirts are ridiculously flimsy. I don't tear them on purpose."

Leonard rolled his eyes, but a reluctant smile tugged at his lips. He tangled one hand in Jim’s hair when a warm kiss was pressed to his neck, slowly stroking the golden hair. He was glad that Jim could eat alright these days - it had taken almost a year for him to admit what had happened on Tarsus, and Leonard’s heart still ached with the very thought of it.

At least now he could keep an eye on Jim. He could be possessive and worry and no one could say a damn thing.

"I’m not on call for a while though," he said, "So I’m all yours at lunch for the foreseeable future, unless there’s a real emergency. Promise."

Jim smiled softly when he felt Bones' hand in his hair, and it helped to relax some of the tension that had built up over the course of the day. He knew he was being stupid, and that his dependency on Bones to keep him right and keep him calm during the day was ridiculous, but it was far too late now for him to be able to fix it.

Jim gave a soft smile, head tilting back so that he could smile up at Bones lazily. He pressed a kiss to his jaw this time, and nosed at his neck again.

"Good." He murmured. "Sitting on my own sucks."

Leonard had wrapped his arms around Jim without question after being tugged onto his bed, kissing the top of his head and running his hands down Jim’s back. Jim had always been a tactile person, but this was different. Leonard thought he could spend days learning Jim’s body, memorising every dip and curve, every scar and freckle.

"Nah," he said in response to Jim’s question, his voice soft, "I missed you too, kid. Not the same without you making smart-ass comments all day long. Sorry I wasn’t at lunch. They needed me."

He knew, somehow, that Jim needed him more, and strangely that didn’t scare him. This blue eyed kid with the scars and the smile like the sun had become such an integral part of his life that he didn’t even want to remember what came before him.

Jim was forever grateful for Bones barely questioning his motives, for silently moving in whatever direction Jim pulled him. When Bones had become so fiercely loyal he honestly wasn't sure, but he knew he was the exact same. Whenever Bones called he came running; with the amount of times Bones had done it for Jim, Jim owed him.

He snorted softly, his hand running along Bones' side. "I missed your grumpy soliloquies. You don't know just how much your ranting keeps me entertained." He sighed softly. "Yeah, I figured."

It wasn't like he had a big problem with food anymore; he and food were, generally, on good terms. It was more that he didn't like eating on his own, no matter how much Bones was needed elsewhere. It was selfish, and Jim felt horrible for wanting Bones all to himself, but he couldn't help it. Even then, as he thought about it, he shuffled in closer, pressing a kiss to Bones' neck.

It wasn't as if they hadn't done this before. They had been a number of times where the two of them had shared a bed and held each other, collapsed onto the sofa in one big heap, and tangle of arms and legs. He had buried his face into Leonard's neck so many times before that it was becoming second nature.

And yet this still felt strange.

He kept his arms draped loosely around Leonard's waist as he buried his face into his neck, lips hovering just over the other's pulse point. It had been a one of those days; a day when, strangely, he didn't have any classes with Bones. So naturally, when Jim had come home, he'd tugged Bones straight onto his bed and curled into him, still in his red trousers and vest, not eve bothering to change first.

"Is it dumb that I missed you?" He murmured. He hadn't even seen him for lunch.
