I was actively formatting this post when I saw those asks and frankly could not help myself but to answer them first. At some length. Because at my core I am a novelist. And then I thought… I should bury this post in the queue. You can’t have something serious next to something light-hearted or anything with money.

But then I thought about how, and why, Press Start was written. My friend and I were going into 2017 having just heard horrible political news and we didn’t know how dangerous the next years would be. Then this book was released May 2020. And wow, we didn’t know how dangerous that year would be. 

And I caught myself and realized, it was written as and for escapism. And I think more than ever it is detrimental to never allow ourselves play. So here is that post after all about this very low stakes book that was written, and read, in very serious times.

It’s International Day of Friendship and National Paperback Book Day so why not celebrate both at the same time and pick up a copy of PRESS START!

If you feel this take’s over your post let me know @antifacas, but I wanted to add to this. First off, I’m impressed by the mobilization here. The exact hey please do x, y, and z in your voice. 

Second, I get how hashtags these days can feel cheap. But an ace hashtag 5 years ago helped create the only ace character in tv for years. And do you know how many people told me they came out because of that character? Countless. Representation matters. Representation of all LGBTQIA characters matters. And I refuse to ignore the disabled characters too. 

If you don’t think it matters you should have saw the joy it created and the then pain it caused to realize in real time a network censored itself and tried to that joy away. I’m tired of debating what “Bury Your Gays” means or doesn’t mean. I have #SomethingToSay about the C/W

A writer of Riverdale told me that they were looking out for the ace community. We respected that, trusted them. Let up the pressure. Then interviews confirmed the straight washing shortly after. Was that the network again? We may never know.  But we do know this is a pattern from the C/W. 

So yeah I got #SomethingToSay About Lexa. About Jughead. All of SPN’s queer characters this past month alone. More in shows I never once watched. I’m tired of companies and specially the C/W creating queerphobia for profit.

How do I quickly explain this @glaad​ is this really amazing group that cheers on and calls out harmful things with LGBTQ media.

We just learned that the Spanish versions of the Supernatural ( @thecwspn​ ) have two men saying they romantically love each other. Something that was edited out us the American version. 

I legit think anyone who believes or doesn’t believe that an American show censored itself for America audiences  should report the @TheCW for media defamation. It’s 2020 the CW really can’t have two men saying I love you to each other? Outrageous. 

You can boost this, you can like and RT my tweet on it to ping GLAAD and the CW.  You can also report media defamation to GLAAD directly. The don’t think the CW can be honest so we need GLAAD to be that watch dog for us again.
