“I don’t know. I don’t think that there is an era that I wouldn’t look good in, but I’m really feeling this one. I think the ladies would have been all about Tripp Shephard,” he said with a smug smile. “And you don’t look bad either.” He turned to Gemma, his date for the evening. “I’m kidding. You look beautiful. Quite the dame.”

Gemma rolled her eyes as he spoke, not disagreeing with him. “You realize you would have been at war, so I’m not sure how many ladies would have been around,” she teased, deep down not willing to admit that in that moment she was pretty about Tripp Shephard. “Gee... thanks,” she glared, nudging him playfully. “We’re quite the pair aren’t we?”

February 29th 2016It started with a dance. Last night I went out for the first time in Rockford and I danced so hard my feet still ache. And no, for once I wasn’t with Callum. I met someone else though. He’s completely different from Cal. He’s tall, broad, handsome, and even his name is romantic. Rhett. Needless to say I slept with him. It was good. So good. Different from Callum, more intense in a way because I felt like he could see into me. Maybe that’s crazy. May 8th 2016 Callum is gone. I’m alone. May 10th 2016 Haven’t left the house in days. Rhett came over tonight and I finally felt something other than suffocating pain. Maybe I could let him in. Maybe I could love him? But i doubt it. I don’t think I’ll ever love anyone again.

July 29th, 2017 I think I’m in love with him? No, I’m definitely in love with him. Fuck. I dropped $400 on shoes today but the tormenting loneliness has been playing tricks on my mind again. It felt good to distract myself for a few hours, thinking of the potential they all held, the places I could wear them and the image they created, but by the time I got home I was back to myself. Back to wondering what the hell I’m doing here and why I can’t seem to find a place to call home. I’ve been considering going back to New York, but I know it’ll just bring back the memories, ones that I’m not ready to deal with. Jamie called today. He told me he’s met someone. I told him I had too. Was I really lying? Maybe i’ll get lucky. Or maybe this is about to blow up in my face again

“I wonder if on the dominos pizza tracker if they just use a random name generator or if those are actually the names of the employees.”

Tripp: Thinking you're going to have to.
Tripp: Gem, I am only a man with eyes.
Tripp: Just how close we talking?
Gemma: Well then, you and me! This weekend!
Gemma: Very nice eyes might I add.
Gemma: Closer than usual... As close as it gets?

The blood flow was too heavy for this to be a regular occurrence. Tripp looked at her with questioning eyes as he grabbed a new kleenex. “Pinch the bridge of your nose for me,” he requested. “This could be a big deal.” There was something in the way she looked at him that gave him a feeling that there was something she wasn’t saying. “I think you should get checked out, Gem.”
Image
Gemma did as he said, and watched him as he thought. “It’s fine,” she tried to argue, but the kleenex was still in the way. Moving her hand slightly, she sighed. “It’s really not a big deal.” she repeated, feeling defeated. “I’ve just been partying a little harder than usual.” It was a confession she hadn’t intended to make, but it fell from her mouth almost naturally, like they were teenagers again and telling Tripp her secrets was as normal as a walk in Central Park.

Tripp: Not old. Just rusty.
Tripp: Why is it weird? You're an attractive woman. How am I supposed to not notice that?
Gemma: I'm so not rusty!! Don't make me prove it to you!
Gemma: I just didn't expect you to notice. Kinda like that you did.
Gemma: feel free to take a closer look sometime.

“I like to think you are in good hands,” he winked at her, gently cleaning up the blood stained skin. “Sometimes?” Tripp repeated, his brow pulling together as concern fell over him. “Gemma how often do you have these?” While the cause from dryness could happen on occasion she almost sounded as if this was more common than not.
Image
Gemma tried to smile but couldn’t move her face much with the kleenex pressed against it. The blood didn’t seem to be letting up and it was starting to get embarrassing. “Every couple days or so,” she told him honestly, looking to him with wide and vulnerable eyes. “Not always this bad though, I mean sometimes it’s a lot but it’s really no big deal,” she tried to justify, ashamed for him to know the real cause.

Tripp: That just depends on how much you think you can handle now.
Tripp: Let's just say I had a very happy ending each time.
Gemma: Are you calling me old? I can handle my shit!
Gemma: That...is oddly kind of hot. Weird!

Tripp: Or maybe this is why I don't take you out... Just prepare yourself. It's gonna be like the NY days.
Tripp: Yeah, you're wrong anyways. It was at least 4 times.
Gemma: Like NY days when I pretended to be your arm candy, or NY days when we'd wake up and not know how we got back to my house?
Gemma: WAS I GOOD??????
Gemma: My ego right now is so happy!

“Don’t be sorry. Nothing I don’t see every day. In fact most patients don’t look as half as good as you do with a nosebleed,” he offered a warm smile trying to keep her at ease. He could see it in her face. There seemed to be a worry lingering in her eyes, but he wasn’t all too sure if she was worried about the bleeding itself or something else or something else. “Yeah, of course.” He went into her purse, searching through till he found the small packet. Taking it out, he pulled a Kleenex out for her. “Have your sinuses been feeling dry at all? Been sick lately?” Tripp fell into his nurse like manner, grabbing an extra Kleenex and cleaning up her chin.
Image
“Thanks” she took the packet and began soaking up the blood. “I guess there are worse people to suddenly bleed around,” she smiled, her voice muffled by the kleenex. Rolling her eyes at his comment she gave him a well practiced side-eye. Gemma wondered if he could sense it, could he see by the amount of blood that this wasn’t an everyday nosebleed? “Not that I know of,” she mumbled as he wiped at her chin, feeling perfectly comfortable as he helped clean her. “Just happens sometimes I guess,” with that she shrugged and averted her eyes, desperate not to tell him the truth.

Texts | Gemma + Ginny

Ginny: Pajamas totally count as weird clothes. We'll be the hottest messes the delivery man has probably ever seen; it'll be great. Ooh, that actually sounds really nice. What movies have you been wanting to watch?
Ginny: Yeah, I'll bet. How many cities did you go to and were you able to explore them while you were there? I'll definitely keep that in mind. The newest in the same series or are you writing one outside of that?
Gemma: Heck yes they do! Oh girl you better believe i will put curlers in my hair just to achieve that goal! Y'know what I've never seen, Casablanca.
Gemma: We went to seven cities and I really only explored Montreal and Toronto. Granted going to NYC and Philly was just going home. But I got to stay in my favourite suite in New York so that's always fun. The newest one that just dropped is a stand alone. I'm done with the L&M series. Dry Lightning is a stand alone, far less erotic far more literature.
