Our annual holiday celebration at Nick includes a tree trimming party with custom-made ornaments from each production. The animators really brought their A-game this year!

aww yay you can see my Libby ornament right behind Harvey!

The front of my thank you card that I made for all the people I’ve met with at Nickelodeon. I can’t believe it’s finally my last week here :( I had such a great time with everyone I’m sad to go, but I learned a lot of amazing lessons while here and have met some of the most incredible people ever so I can’t wait to come back in the future (hopefully lol)

Full house for the employee screening of our new Nick Jr. show Shimmer and Shine. It really looks beautiful!

Give the premiere a watch on August 24th at 7:30 PM to see for yourself.

This was an awesome premiere, the show was hilarious! And of course I’m just sitting there awkwardly smiling at nothing lol

We’d like to introduce you all to our newest batch of NICKterns for the Summer 2015 Semester!

Last Friday was their orientation and as you can see, it’s been nothing but smiles since day ONE (maybe it was all the free pizza?)! Welcome to the fam, NICKterns– we’re looking forward to working with you and seeing you come into work tomorrow!

And the next day…

…and the next day…

…and the next day ALL SUMMER LONG!!

If YOU’re interested in becoming a NICKtern for the upcoming Fall Semester, our application deadline has been extended to June 19th! APPLY NOWWW!

Hey look, it’s me!

Hi! I saw that you got a Nicktern position. Congrats! I was wondering if I could ask how the process went for you. I applied as well, but I haven't heard anything or from anyone in months. I even tried contacting the recruiter and the general intern email, just to do a follow up, but I had no response. About how long after applying did you hear back from someone? Did you get an interview, or did they just call and tell you the good news? Sorry if I'm bombarding you with too many questions!

Avatar

Hey! Don’t worry I don’t mind answering these questions for you!

So this is actually my second time applying to the program and the first time I didn’t hear a response of any kind so that was how I knew I didn’t get it. As for this time around it was a pretty long process for me. I submitted my app on the April 1st deadline and I got my first phone call about a month later. The first phone interview was with a program recruiter and then my next phone call came about a week later letting me know that I would be doing a skype interview with the production team of Wallykazam later that week. I did the Skype interview with everyone and then I received my program offer the following week. So in total the entire process took about a month and a half from submission of my application to being accepted.

If you don’t get a response back from them I wouldn't take it personally though. I know they are really busy and have a lot of submissions to go through at this time and they can’t respond back to everyone. When I didn’t hear anything the first I was really bummed out but definitely don’t give up on applying again! This time around I spent a lot of time customizing my resume, cover letter, and website so it was all consistent with my personality and my work. I also had a lot of practice writing cover letters this last semester from applying to multiple positions at other studios which I didn’t get but learned a lot from. If you can find someone to proofread your cover letter that would be great and also do research on the studio! Other than that, I can’t think of any other advice to give but I definitely wish you the best of luck with things!

Big news!

I’m so excited to share that I’ll be interning at Nickelodeon this summer on their pre-school show Wallykazam! I am so excited and have always dreamed of becoming a nicktern and now I can finally see that dream come true!

RISD has been a wild and exciting ride for me, but I couldn’t think of a more perfect graduation gift then a call from my favorite studio. I’m looking forward to what lies ahead and I can’t wait to share my all of my experiences with you :) Thank you for all the support!

I’m done with senior year!

That’s it, I’m finally finished! I handed in my last papers today and now I’m officially done with all of my schoolwork at RISD! It hasn’t really hit me yet that I’ll be graduating soon, but I’m definitely excited for whatever is meant to come next :) Also, I’ll be posting my senior film soon, so be on the lookout for that!

I hope everyone else’s week is going great, and for those of you who still have finals hang in there! Warm weather and netflix marathons are close on the horizon so stay strong haha

Hi Tia! I love your artwork. I also happened to notice you are/were at RISD! I was wondering if you had any suggestions/advice on what a prospective RISD undergrad student could do the summer before Foundations year to better prepare for it? I hope to be drawing a lot over the summer, but is there anything in specific that, given the chance to go back in time, you would have practiced more of before you went to RISD? (e.g. figure drawings, technical skills, faces, etc.) Thank you!

Hey! I hope you don’t mind that I answer this publicly since I’ve been receiving a few questions about applying and entering RISD.

The summer before I entered foundations year I just continued what I was already doing, which was figure and observational drawing. They sent all the accepted students a sketchbook to draw in over the summer, so I worked mostly in that since I had to send it back to the school at the end of the summer. If you really want to get ahead of the game I would say start experimenting with different techniques and materials because you will be doing A LOT of experimentation foundations year. The main purpose of foundations year is to break all of the incoming students out of their old/bad habits and get them to be more open-minded about their process and how they approached drawing and design.  It’s hard to tell you what to work on specifically because each foundations teacher is very different, so you might get a teacher that’s all about technical drawing or you could get one that’s all about making a huge mess and trying new methods out.

A few exercises you could try is drawing with a medium you’ve never used before and also giving yourself limitations to draw within (set time limit, size of project, using your non dominant hand, stuff like that) Other than that, you could also try to do something you’ve always wanted to do or learn like making a sculpture or improving on perspective, if that’s what interests you. The summer before RISD is really yours to decide what to do with since you can’t tell what’s going to happen once you get here. Just do something that makes you happy or that you’re interested in and you’ll be fine :)

Here have a watercolor for your day :)

I’ve been busy with interviews, finals, and graduation but it’s all coming to an end soon. Stay tuned for some potentially great news in regards to an awesome internship for this summer though!

Stills from my finished senior film :D

It took forever and some changes can definitely be made but honestly I’m just happy it’s done. I learned so much while creating it that I can’t wait to share it with you guys after Senior Show at RISD!
