(Don't mind the smudges on the table) My sister got me this really cute bullet journal that has dotted pages and recycled brown ones in the middle. It's a hardback with a wood design and an exposed spine and it has a an ink pen and pencil on the front with the words 'Weapons of Creation' under it. I'm just going to be using it as a diary and a place to draw. It's really good quality and I love it so much. You'll be seeing many posts with it in the future!

so i made this post because even the laziest people in existence still have to study ha ha these are just some things i’ve been doing for my revision!

1. you don’t need to rewrite notes to memorise them i know tons of people say that rewriting notes is a form of memory retention but honestly!!! i don’t have the energy/patience for that ha! for me, the best method to memorise things (especially content-heavy chapters/subjects) would be to record yourself talking. i don’t think this is especially catered to auditory learners, because i know for a fact that i’m not an auditory learner but this still works especially well for me so!!

i usually open up the voice recorder app and talk as if i’m teaching someone! i’d recommend you use a guidebook as reference and not the actual textbooks. guidebooks are more vague, so when you’re speaking about a particular point, you can sort of expand on the point given in the guidebook from your knowledge of the subject! this really helps for revision because you’re basically forced to remember things. you don’t necessarily need to replay your recordings. to me, the “recording” bit of this method is psychological, it makes me feel like i’m actually memorising and not just talking to myself haha.

this recording method is honestly one of the most helpful things i’ve ever started doing and i can do a more in-depth post on it if anyone asks haha

2. use different highlighters for different sections i know literally everyone has been told this tip in their lifetime but honestly!!! it’s EXTREMELY helpful, especially if you want to do timelines for history! use different colours for things like dates, people, treaties, etc!  okay but one thing about this tip that’s sort of different from others is that when you highlight dates, highlight the entire event and not just the date! so for example, instead of highlighting “28 June 1919″, highlight “The Treaty of Versailles was signed on 28 June 1919.” that way, you know the WHOLE event and the date and you’ll be more likely to remember both!

i learnt this the hard way - i used to highlight dates by themselves (maybe i was just totally dumb) and i could NEVER remember what happened on the dates lmao

3. the internet is there for you

it’s a bad habit of mine, but being a very last-minute person, i ALWAYS have doubts even the night before exams. since it’s too late to actually contact anyone, i usually have to rely on the internet. the internet has a myriad of wonderful wonderful resources that are so incredibly useful!

some youtube channels that have helped me are khanacademy (literally anything), mathbff (math), keith hughes (history), j brierly (literature)

i also recommend watching documentaries (for history/social studies) because even though it’s a more in-depth version of what you have to learn, it’ll help you understand everything better + make your essay stand out :)

4. find a suitable study space

a good study space is probably the first thing you should ensure if you want to get anything done at all. i usually never study at home, simply because i’m always distracted by trivial things such as “i’m hungry, i’m gonna get food” or “i’m so tired i’m going to sleep for five minutes”.

when i started studying outside (usually at starbucks/the library), my productivity level increased so much it blew my mind a little. even though it’s a bit troublesome because you may not be completely sure what materials to bring, you’ll still get a lot done trust me on this lmao 5. always, always plan what you want to do

i find it really taxing to plan out my entire day down to the hour, so i usually just set a certain number of things i want to complete for that day, and just let things naturally flow from there.

for example, i write the things i want to do on my calendar (finish a set of math papers, read a chapter of lit, etc.) and then i just get everything done on that day w/o planning the exact time i’m going to do it! it makes things less stressful in my opinion :)

i’ve tried planning things by hour but it usually never works out so i just stopped doing it and honestly it’s not necessary! what’s important about planning is just knowing what you need to do and then getting it done.

6. handwrite your notes whenever you can

writing your notes by hand triggers your memory more effectively than typing them out. even though i’m tempted to type out notes since i’m the laziest person in existence, i still try (most of the time) to write notes because at the end of the day, you’ll be more proud of your handwritten notes than your boring typed out ones :)

7. study with people who usually do well

this is a rather…shady….method of learning but honestly!!! when you know how the top students function, you can learn from them as well!

i’ve discovered that top students usually perform so well because they review their content regularly, unlike people like me who wait three days before the exam to start cramming everything into my brain.

keep some pictures of your notes or some flashcards with you, so that when you have pockets of time (eg. waiting for a friend, waiting for the bus, etc), you can whip them out and start reviewing :)

these people also act as tutors, so you can clarify your doubts with them and it’ll be less awkward as compared to asking an actual teacher. i know i prefer asking classmates than teachers hahaha.

OKAY i hope this helped :—) please also reblog/like this if you’re a studyblr, i’m new to the community and i wanna follow more people!!

November studyblr rollcall!!!

After the popularity of my September and October rollcalls, and how many people told me they’d gained active studyblr followers from following people that had reblogged it, I figured I’d do a November one!! Reblog/like if you’re an active studyblr so that we can all follow each other and get motivated to study and succeed!!!

here are some tips on how to study effectively!

  • find your best note-making method!
  • if you are the kind of person who likes to carry something small, with clear-cut and concise notes to review what you studied the previous night or right before the exam starts, you can try using flashcards to write your notes.
  • if you prefer to write standard notes, go ahead and do so!
  • basically, just use whatever note-taking method that works best for you. if you can’t write notes then don’t! just read off the textbook and memorise everything. you don’t always have to make flash cards if someone eg. your best friend uses them.
  • however, do experiment with different note-taking methods until you’ve found one that really works for you. even if you found a method that somewhat works, continue trying out all sorts of kinds of notes, even experiment around with different colours of foolscap/notebook papers and lined/grid/plain papers. you’d never know what works best until you try!
  • if you are the kind of visual learner who requires different colours to be used on your notes, do limit your colours used and don’t make it looks as though a unicorn pooped or puked on your paper. limit your colours used and try to let one colour stand for something eg. pink=attention, green=must memorise etc. this is so as to minimise confusion when studying and looking through your notes.
  • find a comfortable writing instrument
  • pens do make an impact to your notes: your handwriting, the way you grip your pen and your speed of writing.
  • similar to above, you have to use trial-and-error to find the pen that works best for you.
  • also, do not just use a pen because everyone else is using it. use it only if it really works for you.
  • it is totally fine to have different pens for different subjects, especially for languages. for example, i take english and chinese, however, because i use ballpoint pens for english and it is difficult to use ballpoint pens to write chinese characters, i usually use a 0.38 gel pen for chinese and ballpoint pens for english.
  • main point is just to be you. don’t be afraid to use something different from the rest. :)
  • keep a clean table!!!
  • this is SO IMPORTANT. how’re you gonna feel/want to study with a messy table????? i admit that my table was extremely messy before i decided to start this studyblr, but since then my table is relatively clean, with me not needing to overlap my textbook and my laptop anymore. the first step to a conducive study environment is to have a clean table. before you start studying, CLEAN YO TABLES. because TRUST ME, you’re gonna have a shitload of motivation after you’ve done so. and you’ll feel extra good after that so that’s a bonus.
  • if you do not have a dresser like me, and have to keep your things like your jewelry box, spectacles case and your wallet on the table, make sure it only takes up a small corner or portion of your desk.
  • keep a cup/tumbler of water on your table
  • i don’t know why but for me, keeping a cup/tumbler of water on my table helps me regain focus, so i’m just gonna recommend this.
  • take a sip of water periodically. i’m guessing it’s because the water kind of refreshes you and hence keeps you awake and refreshed that it may help you regain your focus when studying for long periods of time.
  • music
  • if you find yourself distracted by music, even if it’s study music, then do not listen to music while studying.
  • if studying music or listening to music helps you focus, then by all means go ahead. personally, although i can’t listen to music and study, i have a couple of study music suggestions for those who study with study music on: StudyMusicProject and search for Studio Ghibli Music Collection, both on YouTube.. (as there are many different Studio Ghibli music collections you can find on youtube, i will not be linking a specific one but this is my favourite.)
  • use of post-it notes
  • these things are super helpful. whether your teacher provides notes for you to fill out during class or if you have to write your own class notes, make use of these post-its to note down any extra notes and stick it by the sides of your notes/notebooks. they’re really handy and you don’t have to carry a large stack of them, just carry a small stack to class.

and that’s about all i have for now! if i do update anything i’d update this and reblog it :) i hope you’ve like this post and that it has helped you find a more effective way to study. do feel free to drop me a question to request or to simply talk to me, i don’t bite HAHAHA.

till the next post!

26 Reminders for Going to School Like a Badass

1. Your attitude dictates your experience, so start finding things to get psyched about.

2. Stock up on healthy snacks in your house!!! You’ll be glad you did when the study-munchies roll around (and they always do).

3. Invest in a good planner. Especially if you take part in multiple extra-curriculars, I can’t stress how helpful it is having a place to check back on deadlines and big events.

4. Write down all your teachers’ names and emails as soon as you get them, so you’re not searching for them when you’re absent.

5. No one is having as much fun as their snapchat story makes it seem.

6. Don’t believe what your peers tell you about tests they take before you, study how much YOU need to.

7. Be nice to your math teacher. Partial credit on math problems might save your grade.

8. Don’t throw out syllabuses/first day handouts!!!! Theres a good chance they have information on the late policy and a gazillion other helpful things.

9. In fact, try to hold on to as many papers as you can for when finals inevitably attack.

10. No one knows you wore those jeans yesterday.

11. Be conscious of how you smell. Don’t be B.O. kid, but also try not to suffocate your lab partner with the scent of artificial fruit/flowers.

12. That cookie in the cafeteria is probably not worth 95 cents. Pack snacks from home to resist overpriced school treats.

13. If you’re carrying around a travel mug of coffee, people will usually leave you alone.

14. Don’t spend more time planning your study schedule than actually studying. Just get your books out and do it.

15. Never underestimate the amount of motivation you can get from watching Legally Blonde (movie or musical).

16. Try to attend at least one school sporting event per season, even if thats not really your scene. Some teachers even offer extra credit for going to big games!

17. Don’t be that kid that asks the teacher when you’re getting your tests back. They have like a gazillion to grade. You’ll get them when they’re done.

18. Have a pump-up playlist for the ride to school and the walk to your first class. Nothing feels more badass than walking through crowded hallways while listening to Halsey’s “New Americana”.

19. Set up a back-up study zone for when you need a change of pace.

20. Don’t put off creative projects because you think they’ll be less time consuming. There’s nothing worse than glitter gluing a scale model of the U.S. Senate at 3 AM because you thought it would be quick and easy.

21. That extra 10 minutes of sleep is not worth the risk of oversleeping completely. Get up, splash your face with some cold water, and get this show on the road.

22. Find a school inspiration, whether it be a really hardworking friend or a studyblr you follow. Check their progress whenever you need motivation.

23. If someone only ever talks to you when they need to copy the homework, they’re using. Don’t indulge them.

24. Doing your own work is so SO important. Plagiarism can destroy careers.

25. Creative outlets can be so refreshing, like a diary, a private tumblr, a sketchbook, whatever floats your boat.

26. When all else fails, remember how lucky you are to be getting an education. School isn’t a punishment, its an opportunity for you to create a kick-ass foundation for the rest of your life.
