a long sam analysis/headcanon

alright me, siva, and @luceetheelephant had a lil sam analysis night at around 3am so. here we go (also sorry for the quality we all know tumblr is the best website ever) also for further reference, here is my quick jodi analysis, since i usually take that into account when i talk about sam’s true nature.

i mentioned (when talking about my own farmer) that sam can very obviously get along with a lot of people, one of which being sebastian— someone who is very obviously hard to talk to. he has a talent to make people open up and become comfortable with him, and i think that stems from “i’ve been wronged and upset so much in my life i want to make sure others never feel the way i have/do”. here’s the following conversation:

TLDR: fear of abandonment makes him useful to others, in fear of him being seen as unneeded. he tries to be a positivity for others in hopes he can become that for himself.

TLDR: he focuses on keeping others happy more than himself, and ends up feeling empty from it. he keeps his issues to himself in fear of burdening others (this could stem from jodi’s stress, and being conscious of it from such a young age). i believe he opens up to the farmer so quick not because he trusts them, but because this is his breaking point.

TLDR: once again, abandonment issues stemmed from ‘abandonment’ in childhood. sam also doesn’t take his own issues seriously in response to trying to prioritize others over himself. he trivializes himself and his issues.

TLDR: sam is obviously good at supporting others (most notably, sebastian) and would likely act the way he does to save face to not drag anyone else down further. he’s very emotionally intelligent from seeing his mother and raising his brother, so i think he can pick up on small things easily. he focuses on others before himself from that.

TLDR: this kinda strain would stress anyone out, but sam consistently hides that part of him from those around him because he’s so used to just supporting others. since he canonically plays guitar when he feels lonely, its easy to assume that since he has such a high skill with it (judging by the 14 heart event), he often feels lonely/isolated/detached from others. this way he expresses his feelings nonverbally, in a way that others would not register as an almost cry for help.

TLDR: this one is self explanatory it just hurts. once more, he can register that since often the people in his life rely so heavily on him, he can’t afford to show any type of negativity in response to it. he wants to be the best person he can be for others.

TLDR: of course theres no blame placed on his family (or friends). their situation sucks and is out of everyone’s control, and he knows that. he steps up to do the most he can for everyone else’s sake to make everyone else’s life easier.

TLDR: now this highlights his relationship with my farmer, how emotionally unavailable she is (along with not being able to physically express positive emotion. but regardless, since she shows similarities to seb, i still think it works for sams character <3 i wont go on about the conversation about mallard and sam bc who cares this is about SAM !!!
