I drew some silly doodles for an instagram Q&A, I thought I’d post a couple of them here too because I liked them

I had an interview with a local paper this week about this rock snake I started on the longest street of a nearby city (where I work) because it's bringing people so much joy:

I said something during the interview that the interviewer seemed really shocked by, so in case it's important for anyone else to hear: When asked about the rock snake and some scavenger hunts that I've hosted for adults, I said -

"We don't stop enjoying the things we liked as kids; they just stop being offered to us. And when you're a kid, fun things like art projects and scavenger hunts are always brought to you, so you're not taught to make a habit of seeking them out as and adult."

She said "Wow yeah... life is so stressful... and you don't think to... wow."

So if anyone else needs direct permission to be a whimsical adult child today, I hereby grant it to everyone. ❤️

I’m so delighted people are enjoying this so much. It was one of my very first animations in freshmen year, after bouncing balls. I was so excited that I just poured time and love into this little guy, and I’m so happy a lot of people like the tiny story I told.

This is a classic fucking prank type

let me tell you driving from Ohio to Washington in a SmartCar with everything I owned was funny enough on its own but once I got west of the Rockies, every. single. time. I stopped ar a gas station, random dads would just spawn beside my car. like there was some sort of dad portal following me. and they’d see my ohio plates and go, “did you DRIVE through the mountains in that?” and every. single. time. I’d go, “well, they didn’t airlift me!”

it killed. it absolutely cleared ever time. never failed to make the dads laugh. they were obsessed. i said it the same every time. it was like I was in a groundhog day timeloop on interstate 70 westbound gas stations. and i you know what? I was happy.

the fact that it was smaller than my tent….

truly took this little transmission places it was never supposed to go.

yeah I won’t lie, I got snowed in east of the Rockies for two days because the pass closed (early October storm) & when I got back on the road there was of course still a fair bit of snow & ice at the very top which these lil guys aren’t really made for and I did indeed pray to Mary for the first time in 15 years lmaaooo

I’m not some “electoralism solves everything vote blue no matter who” npr totebag person but I still think voting is important particularly in local elections and I think a lot of the “voting is lib shit” discourse I see a lot online is just edgy ppl regurgitating right wing psyop bullshit I’m gonna be completely fucking honest

I’ve seen first hand the benefits of getting rid of our shithead right wing county clerk and board via the electoral process, it’s like night and day

There’s a reason that in November 2020 our republican county clerk shut down nearly every polling place on campus forcing all 60,000 college students to go to one location lmao like there’s a reason the right wing tries to keep you from voting.

So I think I forgot to post about it here but I'm knitting my own wedding dress.

Me. I will sit on high-speed rail for fifteen hours. I’ll sit on it for days. I’ll write and read and nap and eat and then do it all over again. I’ll stare out the windows and see America from ground level and not have to drive. I’ll see the Rockies and the deserts and cornfields and the Mississippi River and your house and yours and yours too. I’ll make up stories in my head about the small towns I see as we go along. I’ll see the states I’ve yet to see because driving or flying there is a fucking slog and expensive to boot. I’ll enjoy the ride as much as the destination. And then I’ll do it all over again to come the fuck home.

Our fandom forbearers did NOT suffer through Anne Rice, strikethrough, and other bullshit for fucking ACOTAR and Harry Potter fans to fucking ruin it for all of us by selling fanfiction. I am not losing novel length yaoi epics because some of you don't know how to act in fannish spaces and yes I do blame the booktokification of fanfic but I also blame those of you that treat fandom like content to consume and not a community to engage with.

Seriously people, learn fandom etiquette. It exists, it exists for extremely good reasons, and it's been decades in the making.

You know the saying, 'OSHA regulations are written in blood'? Yeah, that applies to fandom etiquette. We didn't make this shit up to lord it over newcomers, these rules evolved as a form of fucking self-defense and by god we'll die on this hill.

In the law, there's this idea called the "last clear chance" doctrine.

If you are in an accident, and you had the last clear chance to avoid the accident, then you are, at least in some portion, responsible for the accident.

For instance, if you are driving and a car pulls out in front of you, and you could've slammed on the brake but do not, you're responsible for that, even if the turn the other car made was illegal. Moreover, you might be held partially responsible for the other person's injuries, depending on how things work in your location.

This is even true if you can merely mitigate the damage. If you have a chance to limit the damage -- again, let's say you don't brake and the result is a collision at 40MPH instead of 10MPH -- the additional damage you cause could be considered your fault.

To me, this seems very applicable to voting.

The two parties in the US are going to put a couple of candidates up in the next few months. Both of them might be dangerous. But in the end, everyone who can vote is going to have one last, clear chance to avoid, or at least mitigate, damage.

It sucks that both parties are out there driving like maniacs.

But the fact of the matter is, they've put us in this position. And if you don't put on the brakes -- that is, at least mitigate damage -- you are responsible for the additional damage caused.

In the national elections, a choice not to vote for Biden is a choice not to brake when some jerk pulls into your lane. And if there's an accident and a lot of damage -- to voting rights in general, to reproductive rights, to the health and safety and life of trans and other queer people, to education, to the environment -- then you are responsible for not attempting mitigation.

You have the last clear chance to minimize danger and damage. And while you can yell until you're blue in the face that the Democratic party put you in that position in the first place by not running another candidate, you are still responsible even if you try to abdicate that responsibility.

Why are we acting as though the options HAVE to be trump or biden, we could vote for another candidate. This is not a black and white issue.

Assuming that Trump gets the Republican nomination, and Biden gets the Democratic nomination, what third-party candidate is going to make a significant difference in the national election as anything but a spoiler?

I am once again going to share that there is something called a contingent election for those not aware.

If no candidate gets a clear majority of electoral votes (more than half), then the House of Representatives decides who the president is. We lose our votes entirely. Obviously no third party candidate is making it through this stage when we have no third party representation at all in Congress…. but it is even more unlikely the results would align with the popular vote.

Even if a third party candidate can get 40% of the vote, they still lose. Even if a third party candidate gets 40%, Biden gets 40%, and Trump gets 20%…. Trump can win. And likely WOULD win.

Our system is not capable of electing a third party president until we rework it. And continuing efforts to rework it will be 10x easier if Biden is elected than if Trump is.

And a reminder that the Republicans currently control the House of Representatives. If Biden doesn't get a clear majority, Trump wins, even if Trump does not have a clear majority either, because the House of Representatives would hand him the election of it came down to them. The last time a third-party candidate won an election for President in the US was Lincoln in 1860. And the only reason it was possible was because both of the two largest parties before that point had melted down and ceased to exist in any real way.
