“I’m sorry, looks like I’ll have to do it,” smiling down at him, obviously glad by the change of tone between them. “I’m sure he would love to have someone to listen to him, so don’t try wiggling your way out of it, mister.”
Though of course, Tasha by no means would condemn anyone to that kind of longwinded torture. But that doesn’t mean she wouldn’t tease Harley about it.
“But besides all that, what kind of stuff did you learn today? With those wicked new powers of your’s?”

An excited grin spread along his features as he was questioned, the young boy standing up straight as he became extremely focused on the task at hand. Accessing his abilities still took a long out of him at this rate, but he was growing stronger and was more than happy to show Tasha just how much he was improving. Straight face befalling him, Harley focused his energy on creating a force field of energy around himself, preventing anything from touching him.

“Now you don’t have to worry about me so much,” he declared.

  “WOW.”
Brows raising with a smirk in place now, if it weren’t for the fact that    Tasha barely knew Harley’s biological mother, she would’ve been su-    re that he was her son since birth.   Especially with a matching attitu-    de like that.   But she was laughing soon after, not at all offended by     his comment. Ruffling his hair playfully before speaking up,
“You know, I could get Rhodey to visit. Give you some military super-    vision,” an empty threat, though they would both know fully well that    Rhodey enjoys the kid’s company. “Or Jarvis could drill you for hours    about safety and precautions. For hours, Hardy’s. No skip button eith-    er.”

Her laughter ignited a smile from him, like he was proud of himself for being able to accomplish such a task and why shouldn’t he be? It wasn’t every day someone managed to get this close to an Avenger. The fact that he could make her happy on top of it was only icing on the cake. At the threat, however, he found himself laughing with a desperate shake of his head.

“Anything but Jarvis! He lectures me enough as it is!” He pleaded playfully.

   “I was joking, hash browns.”
After accepting a new family member into her life, she didn’t quite     expect all of this to unfold, but she wouldn’t have it any other way.     With how things were with Harley, the Stark felt lucky to have a so-     n like him,        even if she did have to deal with the near constant      concern for him and his safety. Though would that be so different     if she had adopted any other child into her life? Possibly not. Eithe-     r way,    Tasha was happily stuck with him.   Reaching out a gentle     hand to rest on his shoulder, soft (yet maternally worried) smile pul-     led at her lips now.
“Alright, I’m glad to hear that. I don’t blame you for the late night pra-     ctice, doesn’t uh…hurt to learn it all,” was she also having to get us-     ed to these new abilities of his? Yes. But it wasn’t the cards that she     had to control those powers, Tasha just had to adapt to keeping him     as safe as she could.
“Just     …    you know we have a big back yard if it gets too late out.      Not  limited  to just the yard but I’d like to keep an eye on you after     hours for awhile. Adult supervision and all that.”

He nodded in understanding, his features relaxing as she in turn seemed to relax. Smiling softly at the hand on his shoulder, Harley reaching his own hand up to rest it upon hers as though to assure her that all was well. Which, it was. She was a great mother to him and wished she didn’t worry quite so much about him, but he supposed that was his own fault. He didn’t always make things easy on her.

“It’s hardly adult supervision.”

He teased, a smug grin on his face in hopes of revealing one of her own. Still, he was intent on obeying the instructions given to him, by no means trying to downplay them, simply hoping to further relax her by toying with her a bit. Hopefully that wasn’t an impossible feat.

Raising a kid was already difficult enough, but when the kid is also     in the same hero business as you are?   That’s far harder to handle.     At least from where Tasha stood on all this.     So when Harley had     to go out for hero or student reasons, she couldn’t help any nerves     that rose over time apart. Was she a bit overly cautious? Possibly.
“Hey, not to bother you, but why were you out so late? I don’t want     to have to do mandatory check ups on you or something,        do I?”

Call it odd, but he couldn’t deny the fact that there was a part of him who appreciated the fact that Tasha was as protective and careful with him as she was. It was a significant improvement from his own mother. The woman barely acknowledging that her two children even existed and leaving Harley to care for his sister, but with Tasha? Things were different now. They were better. He was cared for here.

“No.” He answered almost guiltily. He never meant to worry Tasha. Not after everything she had done for him, but he was a young boy discovering his powers and admittedly, it was easy to lose track of time when one was discovering just what they could do with their newfound abilities. He wanted to make a name for himself. Like she did.

“I was out practicing.”
