Its been years but today I got randomly so mad they killed Beth. They taunted us with an almost perfect flow of episodes and then literally fridged her for Daryl. That was the beginning of the end of me watching the show. Might rewatch those episodes and weep.

Just wanted to come on here and remind everyone that Beth Greene deserved better and her death was one of the shittiest pieces of writing I have ever seen on TV. Remember: cheap shock value does not a good episode make. Anyway, enjoy your spin-offs with the same writing that goes in circles!

Hope no other female gets fridged for Daryl’s man pain.

Reasons Why I don’t ship C@ryl and why I ship Bethyl!

To me C@rol and Daryl are like two corner pieces of a puzzle.  They both have their “edges” that have come from a life of developing/building walls.   These edges (walls) allow them to remain on the outside.  Allow them to have a self-sense of security but still “fit” with other puzzle pieces in their life.

Now for anyone who has put a puzzle together we all know that corner puzzle pieces cannot go together.  They simply will not make the whole puzzle complete if you try to “put” them together.  To me this is another reason why I do not see C@rol and Daryl as an equal pairing.  They are equal in the fact that they mirror each other but they do not complement each other.

As a corner puzzle piece what is the one thing that connects it to the other pieces?  What is it that combines that puzzle pieces purpose to make a “whole picture”? Other puzzle pieces of course.

Now while I ship Bethyl I strongly believe that Daryl is not solely connected by Beth’s puzzle piece (more on that later).  My opinion is that Rick’s puzzle piece is the first to connect him.  In S2 on into S3 Rick and Daryl formed a bond that can only be described as a true “bromance”!  Rick had a “right-hand” man in Daryl.  Someone to put faith in and someone to trust.  Daryl found a new sense of worthiness in Rick.  A sense of belonging.   Rick is Daryl’s side puzzle piece.  Rick has an edge.  He has been hardened by the new world he faces.  He has lost so much since the ZA started but prior to the ZA he had a sense of normalcy in his life.   So Rick’s puzzle piece while not a corner like Daryl’s still has that one “edge” that has developed from his new life.  With this new edge but still maintaining a part of his past (Carl, Judith, being a cop i.e. loyalty/oath/for the greater good) his piece upholds the “nooks” and “crannies” if you will.  Rick’s puzzle piece is the first fit to connect Daryl’s piece to the overall picture.  It serves as the first anchor to developing Daryl and making him feel complete or a part of the “greater overall”.

Now onto Beth’s puzzle piece.  To me Beth is more developed emotionally than Rick or Daryl.  Beth had to suffer personal lose long before Rick did with Lori.  I am not overshadowing Rick’s lose in any way I am only stating that Beth overcame a lot on her own before Rick himself had to deal with his own loses in S3.  Add to that her attempted suicide in S2. Also Beth grew up in a very loving household from what we know.  It is in my opinion that she did not have to see first-hand the devastating toll her father’s (Hershel) alcoholism took on the family.  I think Maggie and Shawn were more aware of those moments while Beth was still a young child.   For the most part Beth grew up in a happy home with love, tradition, faith and hope.  With that in mind Beth’s puzzle piece has not “edges” and only nooks and crannies.  Her piece at first glance can appear to bind with any other puzzle piece but as with all puzzles there is only ONE true fit to another piece no matter how hard one might struggle to make pieces fit together.   Beth is that connecting piece for Daryl.  She is the one that brings it all to his piece.  The love, hope, happiness, family, life, etc.   Beth is that MISSING piece that allows Daryl to feel whole.  To feel complete.  Beth chose life after seeking out death.  She chose to live!   She did that on her own, for herself.  Beth’s puzzle piece is the “full circle” to connect Daryl to every other puzzle piece in life.  She makes life in Daryl’s eyes (IMO) worth living.

Now some might be asking “well what about the other edge piece”? I have thought about this and my thoughts drift to it being Hershel.   Hershel was a recovering alcoholic prior to the ZA.  Much like Rick he had a normalcy to his life prior to the ZA.   The one thing that created this edge for him was his falling off the wagon.  Why did he get back on the wagon?  For his children. For his wife.  Much like Rick chose to keep fighting and living because of his own children after the loss of Lori.   

So there it is!  My Bethyl love explained in puzzle pieces.  Please be kind.  This is the first attempt I have made to analyze/make a meta for my ship on a public site like Tumblr. :)

I know this is an old topic but it still bugs the hell out of me when I see Bethyl-haters scream ‘she was a minor!!1!1!🤢🤢’

Beth was 18-19 when she died. Yes, she was young. But in an apocalypse, age isn’t what it is in our modern world. Beth had endured so much trauma that she had the mentality of someone in their mid-20s. She could shoot walkers between their eyes whilst being distressed and on the run. She went from watching her mother (who she believed to be alive at the time) get murdered and then have her reanimated mother try to attack her, to going through heavy depression and surviving a suicide attempt, to seeing someone getting ripped apart and eaten whilst she was holding her hand (Patricia), surviving an entire winter on the road, taking care of someone elses baby, watching her father get decapitated, to getting kidnapped, sexually assaulted, helping somebody she knew for one day escape what was basically enslavement (Noah), stealing drugs and saving Carol’s life, do you want me to keep going?

Beth was an intelligent girl who was emotionally mature enough to make her own decisions. Daryl was indeed older, but mentally and emotionally he was a lot younger due to the shit he has had to go through.

They’re equals. There is no power imbalance in their relationship. We all know Daryl wouldn’t lay a single finger on anyone without their consent and Beth is tough and intelligent, just like him. People take one look at a ship and immediately yell all of the horrible things that come to mind simply because they don’t like it.

Stop minimizing Beth’s maturity just because you want to prove your point. Not only is it borderline sexist, thinking just because she’s young and a girl she can’t make up her own mind, but it also denigrates the connection between them and the growth she’s had to go through. Because if you imply that it’s wrong because of their age difference, you’re basically saying it’s wrong because Daryl is taking advantage of her because of how young she is.

He wouldn’t. Ever.

Ship and let ship and leave Beth Greene the fuck alone.
