Prompt:
‘Starting from an object of your choice, craft a story for the object and examine how different mediums and materials play into communication. Using the original object, create a record cover for a musical artist. Consider how the medium and form will represent the identity of the music or artist.’
I chose Sigur Rós and an enamelware pitcher
‘Sigur Rós, a band hailing from Reykjavík, Iceland, use their native language for its parts. Paying little mind to grammatical structure, they string together words and phrases to create an audial composition. The pitcher went through the same process of being “scrapped for parts,” broken down into three different materials/textures: metal, porcelain/enamel, and water. These were then used to create different compositions.’
weird early versions of damn / Tower of Destruction
hey i have a website
(probably a lot easier to see my portfolio here)
(Damn / Tower of Destruction) 2014
Though it deviates in imagery between different tarot decks, the Tower always signifies disaster, upheaval, and revelation – and the change and growth that is the result. These ideas are represented by the titular tower, set upon by heavenly destruction – often lightening or fire. Figure(s) fall from the ruined tower, their place disrupted by this sudden change. The card speaks about the change caused by sudden revelation or catastrophe, the destruction of old philosophies to make room for the new. Reversed, the Tower indicates fear of change and being trapped by holding onto old beliefs – the inability to move forward. I think the moment where those things meet but have yet to switch – where the revelation has occurred, awareness has been reached, ignorance lost, but the individual is not yet ready to move forward and leave the destroyed tower – is perhaps the thing most worthy of examination.
