Her spine stiffened, and a chill shuddered through her. The thought of this woman, once a saviour and now a demon, laying her hands on the infant her daughter carried was unthinkable. How strange they had all changed so much in such a little period of time. There had been a time, not long ago, when the town had placed complete faith in the blonde woman before her, and now Leila stood rigid, frozen at the implied threat towards the one joy remaining in her life. ❝ She has NOTHING to do with this. ❞

Her mother had taught her to smile prettily at whoever she thinks is worthy the Kapuletovs’ attention, and very little beyond that.
❝ When the time comes, father will make that decision for me. ❞ Leila stiffened. She did not think to dwell on the possibilities of true love, or never ending affections. Destined from birth to marry into wealth and royalty, such as how she was born, meant she had sacrificed all decisions of her own. She was an empty shell, a pretty girl with a sweet smile and gentle hands. There need be nothing beneath the surface a husband would not desire. ❝ You know how these things work. ❞
