"Why does Vechs play with smooth lighting off?"

I play with smooth lighting off for two reasons:

1) I like how it looks.  Reminds me of classic Minecraft.

2) It's very useful to see discreet light levels when lighting up areas and helps with shutting down spawners and natural spawning.

Slightly excited, slightly anxious

Minecraft 1.0 should be coming out very soon now, and with it I will formally have access to brewing and enchanting.  When MCedit updates, and some other helpful mods update, I can start working in earnest on new maps. I am excited about these new gameplay elements, as that gives me more things to work with, which is always nice when you are trying to create fun and entertaining experiences for the player.

Yet at the same time, I feel like I have a giant mountain of work to be done on my older maps, to get them updated and fix all the little things that have broken in them over the past few months of updates.  It feels a bit daunting.

Well, why not...

Maybe I'll use this thingy one day.
