Studio Ghibli Color Designer Michiyo Yasuda, has passed away. :’(

Michiyo Yasuda, long time animator & color designer of Studio Ghibli passed away

Japan’s Mainichi has reported on the death of long time color designer and the chief of the ink and paint division of Studio Ghibli Michiyo Yasuda, who passed away of an undisclosed illness on October 5 at the age of 77. Yasuda started working at Toei Dogo before she was 20 and joined Studio Ghibli co-founders Isao Takahata and Hayao Miyazaki on the 1968 anime feature Horus, Prince of the Sun aka the Little Norse Prince.
Yasuda later worked on Miyazaki’s ‘78 TV anime Future Boy Conan, pre-Ghibli feature Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, and Studio Ghibli’s features such as Hayao Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro,  Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle and Ponyo, as well as Isao Takahata works like Grave of the Fireflies
While Yasuda officially retried after Studio Ghibli released Ponyo in 2008, she came back in 2013 for Miyazaki's “final feature” The Wind Rises. Yasuda won an Animation Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 from the Japan Movie Critics Awards.
Her career spanned over five decades, beginning as a tracer for animation before shifting into color work. She was present at the inception of Studio Ghibli, and continued to run the Color Department until her retirement following PONYO in 2008. Then returned to work for The Wind Rises.

We are forever grateful for your incredible, filled with out of this world beauty artistry.  RIP Michiyo Yasuda.

Thank you for making this post, I’m glad to see this sad news getting attention. I had drafted a profile post on Yasuda a few months ago and never got around to finishing it and now its so sad that its taken her death for many people to discover one of the geniuses of Studio Ghibli who decided the colours for practically everything you see in every Ghibli film ever made.

… there will probably never exist a photo of Chelsea Manning, age 28, for the world to see. It made me sad, because she looks nothing like any of the photos of her on the Internet. She looked like a hero, brighter and stronger than in all my memories, radiant with a light that makes no sense.

She was wearing a brown prison uniform that was too big for her small frame and smiling ear-to-ear. Her hair was neatly combed in a short pixieish cut, no longer than the 2-inch maximum allowed by the prison. Despite everything, she looked even younger than I remembered, with glowing skin and large blue eyes framed by elegant cheekbones. We beamingly smiled at each other for several seconds, suspended in disbelief and joy.

I bring up her recent appeal to reduce her sentence from 35 years to 10 years, and she seems worried that it didn’t receive enough coverage in the press.

She hopes that the world hasn’t forgotten about her.

“Medics confirm 6 people bit by dogs total, and 12 people treated for pepper spray. —Up to 30 people were sprayed, and the 12 confirmed were treated. Just talked to a guy with video who was there and says many were “misted” by the spray too. No signs posted- “Attack dogs at work” and illegal to use dogs on land not owned by Dakota Access. No ID or Verbal warnings. A Young girl bit by a dog, in hospital now, and another Pregnant woman bit on the shoulder. Everyone on front line pepper sprayed, including woman and children.”

“shitty memory” aesthetic

-giving ur friends the same information over and over because u forgot u ever gave it to them

-opening up a new text post only to forget what u were going 2 say

-never changing a wall calendar/needing to look up what day of the week something will be

-literally not being able to remember what happened yesterday/an hour ago/five minutes ago

-forgetting where ur going/what ur doing in the middle of doing it

-flipping through the beginning of a book because u forgot some characters and plot development

-making a typo, make a mental note to fix it, get up to do something, keep typing without fixing the typo

-”haha ur memory cant be THAT bad”

-it can be

-reminding urself 2 do something but u forget

-writing reminders, forgetting that u wrote a reminder/forgetting what was on the reminder/forgetting where u put the reminder

-”just put something in ur room out of place before u go 2 sleep” and ur room has so much shit on the floor u wouldnt even be able 2 tell whats out of place

-alternately: doing the above and then forgetting what it was supposed to remind u of

-did that happen or was i dreaming

-i was gonna put something here but i FORGOT it and i HATE it

someone else: remind me to do this later

Jason Lewis is not just your average hate-filled Republican.

The former right-wing radio host has not only argued that slavery should still be legal, but that Hurricane Katrina victims were “whiners” and has said that African-Americans should feel lucky to live in poverty in the United States because “the median income for blacks in America would make them rich in most African nations.”

From the article:

Here’s an excerpt from an audio portion of his book Power Divided is Power Checked: The Argument for States’ Rights:

“In fact, if you really want to be quite frank about it, how does somebody else owning a slave affect me? It doesn’t. If I don’t think it is right, I won’t own one, and people always say, ‘Well, if you don’t want to marry somebody of the same-sex, you don’t have to, but why tell somebody else they can’t?’ Uh, you know if you don’t want to own a slave, don’t. But don’t tell other people they can’t.”

Let me reiterate that those are the words of a Republican candidate who just won the GOP nomination for the Minnesota Second Congressional District arguing that we should still have the right to own slaves. […]

Slight reminder to my non-Rican friends that the US leeches billions upon billions of dollars from us, we have no say in anything especially anymore with the “reform” that has taken away most of our rights, we pay same taxes as you people in outrageous numbers (right now at 11.5% on everything), AND have the most expensive import embargo that being the USA’s. All of this is being ignored by the media and CNN, FOX and US media outlets keep pushing that WE’RE the ones leeching off of the mainland and it’ll cost YOU guys money to help us. This is bullshit. They’re killing us here and taking our rights away slowly. Please stop ignoring this.

The bill’s (sole) sponsor as of this reblog is Congressman Sean Duffy of Wisconsin. He looks like this:

You can contact him at:

Hon* Sean Duffy 1208 Longworth HOB Washington, DC 20515 Toll free phone: (855) 585-4251 Twitter: @RepSeanDuffy

*The “Honorable” part is questionable, tbh.

Wait, is this “The Real World” Sean Duffy??

He is Real World Sean Duffy. He is also the guy who claimed that he can’t survive on $170,000.00/year in Wisconsin.

“Though the Commonwealth government has its own tax laws, Puerto Ricans are also required to pay most US federal taxes, with the major exception being that most residents do not have to pay the federal personal income tax. In 2009, Puerto Rico paid $3.742 billion into the US Treasury.”

Puerto Rico citizens can not vote for who will be president in the general elections.

What was one of those things the colonies want to get away from….hmmm I think is was taxation without proper representation.

So… Congress (or at least this one asshole) has decided that oppressing economically and politically disadvantaged people in the continental United States isn’t enough anymore, and has to move on to the territories?

It’s like millennials do not understand that middle east has been at war for 1000′s of years. That we intervened on behalf of Kuwait. That without “bombing” people that want to kill and oppress others, millions will be murdered and tortured.

“at war for 1000′s of years”

you clearly know nothing about Afghanistan nor the middle east

here’s Afghanistan in the 1950′s, 60′s, & 70′s

It’s interesting to note that when the communist government came to power in Afghanistan in the late 70′s, one of the first things they did was declare equality of the sexes, made education for girls mandatory, & banned child marriages. The conservative tribal leaders who the US armed & funded (& who later became the Taliban) declared this to be a “war on Islam” & fought against the central government.

The US had no problem back then with encouraging the growth of Islamic conservatism to counter socialism/communism. You created your biggest enemy & you have no one to blame but yourselves.

BLESS THIS POST

its crazy to me how the US talks about war in the middle east as if its this ancient problem inherent to the area instead of a recent problem created by western countries to further their own interests.
