one of the best feelings is being caught off guard by someone's kindness towards you, especially when you're having a bad day, and you can't stop thinking about it for the next two weeks

Some people with depression

- cannot get out of bed. Some can.

- cannot keep a job. Some can.

- cannot eat. Some can.

- cannot stop eating. Some can.

- self-harm. Some don’t.

- are suicidal. Some aren’t.

- take medication. Some don’t.

- have more bad days than others

- have more support systems than others

My point is that depression is not universal and while there is a general cluster of symptoms, it manifests differently in everyone. You can’t always spot depression on the street, in the grocery store, or at them gym. Depression doesn’t always jump out at you and let you know that there’s a person who is hurting deeply. Don’t contribute to stigmatization.

Boys cry, girls masturbate, boys have feelings, girls get angry, boys can use makeup, girls can like porn, boys can like sewing, girls can get violent, boys can wear dresses, girls can be good at sciences, boys can like boys, girls can like girls, boys can like pink, girls can have body hair, boys don’t have to be muscular, girls don’t have to be curvy, boys don’t have to love sex, girls don’t have to be thin.

13 Things I Wish I Knew About Depression Before Going To College

My freshman year of college looked nothing like I expected it would. Despite binge-watching every college-themed movie I could find on Netflix the week before I moved into my dorm, nothing prepared me for the culture shock I felt being on my own for the first time.

While what they say is true — college really can be one of the best times of your life — for me and a lot of people, it was also one of the loneliest. Between navigating your newfound independence and managing a full course load of classes, the stress of college adds up. And sometimes that stress leads right into struggles with depression. But you don’t have to go through that alone. Here are just a few things I wish I had known about depression before heading to college.

1. Don’t trust everything you see on social media.

Social media can be a dangerous place when you’re depressed. Scrolling through picture after picture of smiling faces can make it seem like everyone has their shit together, but that’s definitely not the case. You can’t take social media at face value, and if I’m being completely honest, my Instagram during the months where I felt the most depressed in college is riddled with pictures of me smiling…

I hope you wake up early up enough in the morning to put on your favorite outfit and make your favorite breakfast. I hope you find your skin clear and hair healthy. I hope you’re content with the way your body looks. I hope you find happiness in small things today. I hope that, even with your ups and downs, you are content with yourself.
