Poe’s bent over, face close, begging attention. Vying for it from the seductive lure of liquid blackness aswirl in his eyes. Sleep, it says. Rest. It would be nicer, he thinks, to just shut his gaze away from the world and give in to the pull.

He thinks: Poe’s the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.

Long lashed, bright skinned, a surreal depth to those deep sable eyes. Maybe he’s always been too shy to examine him openly like this, but right now, those features are thrown in sharp relief — and it’s all he can do to take them all in.

There’s a tap at his cheek. He doesn’t remember closing his eyes, but suddenly Poe’s drawn even closer, expression etched with thinly veiled relief ( Muran thought he’d been dreaming that small, anguished sound ).

“It’s okay.” Words come soft and rumpled like sun warm sheets; when had his tongue gotten heavy as this? “You’ll be fine.” But him? He won’t make any speculations there — feels the fatigue too deep in his bones, the way his strength bleeds away into the dust. ( He’s still too practical to make promises, especially those he likely can’t keep. ) But Poe? He knows this — Poe will be fine. He burned with a brightness that blinded closed eyes, a supernova cutting through the stars.

“—— You’ll be fine.” And as long as he was, Muran would be too.

( He closes his eyes. )
