This is my entry for Resin Aperture this month!  The theme is high-key photography, which was *really* hard for me… I’m a high-contrast kinda girl! But I had fun and I used another picture from this set for one of my ADAW posts for a future week because I’m cheating…

For the Resin Aperture theme of the month: High Key. Normally don’t like her in a white fur wig but for some reason it fits well. Also, Soom eyes are hard to photograph from the side.

Okay… so this was interesting. My first take on this was technically a high-key shot (that is, all the colors on the histogram are concentrated on the high-end), but something doesn’t feel right with my full-front key light and halo backlight set up. I then realized, there’s not enough fill light! Even when overexposed, there is still too much play of light & shadow on the subject giving sharp contrast to the features despite the elimination of blacks in the picture. What I need is some honest good fill lighting to wash out the dark areas.

So I turned on all the lights in my room, moved my key light a bit and got this as final result. It has much less shadows than the first one, but since I no longer have to overexpose so much, I was still able to retain the subject’s features. ^_^

So what do you think? Challenge success?

Took this for the April Resin Aperture challenge (high key). This one was pretty tough for me, but I kinda like the result!

Shy Girl by Karla-Chan done for the resinaperture challenge: High Key

This was, way, way out of my normal comfort zone. So I am honestly not sure how well I did with the challenge; because a lot of my dolls look high contrast, so the ones with darker skin have light hair and visa versa. So it was a case how do I do this challenge without too much shadows? I know it sounds silly, but I didn’t want to change how the dolls look because they are all based on characters. I would rather show them as their characters. If that makes sense? I thought well if I try to show as little of Ki’s hair as possible that might help, so I thought about the white lace hood. So hopefully I have made more of the picture High Key. I also did it in black and white because of how red her hair is, and I thought that would take the edge off. I tried muting the colours at first, but that didn’t seem to look right. So I went straight up black and white.  However I do really like these challenges because they do make me think in different ways, and try things I would have thought to try on my own.

Honestly I really recommend these challenges to people! I hope you like my picture, but if have any feedback on this I honestly don’t mind. Feedback is always welcome!

Based from the Resin Aperture theme for the month: profile angle. I really need to add her eyelashes. Poor Nomine. Also, Soom eyes photograph wierd.
