Women of the Epic Cycle

@troades / troades.tumblr.com

Dedicated to anything and everything about the mortal (and not quite mortal) women involved in the Trojan War/Epic Cycle.
Feel free to submit things you'd like to see here. Don't submit things from the movie Troy. Just don't.
I track the #mythology tag and (more usefully) the #troades tag.

Really happy with how she turned out! I decided to give her some naiad features, inspired by this post and it was really fun! I hc that she can breathe underwater (even though she doesn't have gills. Do naiads have gills?), although I am not sure if she can do it freely or for a limited amount of time šŸ¤”

The fabric piece covering her chest was loosely inspired by 18th century neckerchiefs, because I wasn't sure how the Mycenaean open chest fashion would fly with the censorship here or on other platforms ĀÆā \ā _(ā€¢ā Ā ā ā–½ā Ā ā ā€¢ā ;)ā _ā /ā ĀÆ

Letā€™s talk about Creusa!

Hooray @aeneiddaily has finally reached my favouritest blorbo of the Aeneid, Aeneasā€™ wife Creusa. I just finished my bachelorā€™s thesis about her (specifically what Maurus Servius Honoratus says about her character, also comparing to R. G. Austinā€™s commentary) and sheā€™s been a special little brainrot of mine for the last couple years even before last schoolyearā€™s deeper dive into madness.

For now I want to just talk about some basics when it comes to Creusa, and then some more text based analysis later (probably tomorrow and the day after, I suppose?). Please note that my information on the topic is still limited - I only got as far as a BA thesis can go (around 33 pages overall), and I mostly used articles written in English and whatever was accessible through my universityā€™s library.

Letā€™s start with a little introduction, and once Aeneid Daily gets to the Juicy Bits (aka lines 2.768ā€“795) Iā€™ll get to some deeper discussions of her character and what commentators, both modern and ancient, have said about her.

(And, uhā€¦ spoilers for the ending of Book 2? If that is a concern?)

Classicstober entry 1: Cassandra

Cassandra is having her mouth sown shut by Apollo. Symbolism for that not even one word uttered by her could reach the ears of her people. Apollo is burning in rage behind her from her betrayal.

It's a bit gruesome but this is an interpretation of mine for their story.

You see it all // with your mystical madness (Head without a Heart, Jon English)

It's this time of the year and, here I am, trying my hand at Classictober. I can wait to experiment on a different style of character-design from my usual one, going for a soulsborne vibe !

And when the couple had enjoyed their lovemaking, they shared another pleasureā€”telling stories.
