Roxas stared at the notebook, specifically how frantically Lea handled it. All he could think to do was give Lea the encouragement and validation he needed. “You don’t need to apologize,” he reassured him. “I’ll just let you know if you do.” A big breath left him before he hugged him. “No one is gonna be mad at you for this. It’s fine. I just want to help. What can we all do?”
Lea’s memory used to be functional and sound. Now it was just a discombobulated mess where he could barely keep things sorted. It was a full-time job that he usually ended up putting off most days.
He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly to calm himself. There was no need to get frustrated when Roxas was clearly worried. His concern made Lea smile and rub his head and hug him back. “Sorry,” he said again, apologizing for apologizing.
“I hate forgetting, you know that. So when it happens daily it gets frustrating. Just be patient with this old man, okay?”

Isa frowned slightly and gently placed a hand on Lea’s shoulder. “Lea, it’s alright. Don’t beat yourself up over it.” It wasn’t the first time it had happened, after all.
Lea’s brows were furrowed as he looked up to Isa and huffed. He then turned away with his head tilted down. “I keep forgetting.” It hurts to say that word. Sometimes it’s out of his own control but he can remedy his memory with his notebooks. But even that didn’t work sometimes.
“I’m sorry- could you... tell me again? Where Xion went?”
Unmistakeable concern clouded the boy’s features as he tried to make sense of what was wrong. He was certain he’d answered the question earlier that day, but he felt bad… Clearly, Lea was frustrated with this–it wasn’t fair to him. Roxas’s curiosity was left to wonder the source of it all ever since he first noticed it. He was patient, even if he had to repeat answers just so he could help his friend overcome it if possible.
“Lea… It’s fine. Don’t let it get to you.”
“No- no- I don’t make mistakes like this. I didn’t write it down.” Lea huffed, taking a small journal out of his pocket and flipping through it to find a list. He skimmed it quickly and found the question he had asked right next to a checkmark.
“I don’t even remember writing this! Or marking it!” He sounded astounded and annoyed at himself. He took the pen and scribbled a line through it. “I’m sorry, Roxas. Hopefully, I don’t ask it again.” Lea huffed and stuffed the notebook back in his pocket, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.
“Shit- I already asked that question today. Fuck, fuck, fuck-”

“Anything is a breakfast food if you’re brave enough.” He joked with a grin and gladly let himself be led around by the arm. It gave him a break from having to echo locate. Which got tiring after doing it too long in a day. “My second eyes huh? I like that. I look forward to hearing how you paint the world.” He smiled as they walked. “Sometimes I wish I’d been faster about protecting myself back then..when the kid blinded me. I’m usually so good at deflecting magic.”
“The world might end up looking like a picture drawn by a child in crayon but I guess that’s not all bad,” Lea mused.
Though that smile disappeared rather fast. Lea briefly turned to Myde and sighed. “You can’t change the past. Contemplating about what could’ve happened will get you nowhere, trust me.” There were things that Lea wished he could change. He should really take his own advice on it so he could finally move on from all of his mistakes. “But... I’m glad I could at least help you.”
Isa’s face lit up even more when he saw Mishka following Lea’s command. “Good girl!” he said, giving her a couple of more scratches behind the ears. Someone had clearly trained her well, and loved her. Made Isa wonder what had happened to her previous owners.
He glanced up at Lea when he spoke and nodded, finally standing back up. He was very excited to take Mishka home. “Yes, let’s.”
“Ready to go home, girl?” Lea smiled down at the pup and picked up her leash. She yipped in response. He opened the door and led the two to the receptionist's desk to fill out the adoption papers. Lea told her they didn’t want to change her name. Then she went on the whole spiel about her vaccines.
There were just the final papers to sign. “Do you want to do the honors?” Lea slid them over to Isa. Meanwhile, Mishka was pacing, unable to sit still.
