Day Five!

Just a sketch for today, was focusing on getting the legs and body right in proportion to the head. It’s way better than my first few sketches, but a little off in the rump right now. Part of the issue was that my reference was facing the opposite direction of the tutorial I was following on how to draw a pony, so I had issues transferring the directions the other way. But still, not too bad of a result!

Day Four:

Today I sketched all of the mane 6. The four separate ones came out a little aardvarky, and in the Flutterdash one, well, Dashie had a few too many donuts. Notably, the Flutterdash and the solo Dash head are the first muzzles I really think I got even close to right.

Day Three:

Hooray, more ponies! Today (yesterday) it was Spitfire and Rarity, and a lot of learning experiences. For one, Rarity’s mane is damn near impossible and I’m not going to revisit her until I’ve gotten more comfortable (well, except in day four’s sketches which I’ve started already this morning).

Biggest takeaway for me today was that I realized why I really hate my bodies - looking up proper proportions, apparently the head should be roughly 1/3 of the subject, and for me it’s been around 1/2. That realization turned what was supposed to be Spitfire and her body into just a head and neck, but in the end I’m REALLY happy with how she turned out (just ignore the goggles, faux-3D, like in Rarity’s mane, is giving me major issues).

Of note, this was the first time I followed that style of drawing a muzzle (what you can see in the sketch on the right) and I REALLY liked it. I’m going to keep using that drawing method from here on out.

Day Two!

And I immediately shift to doing my favourite today haha. This was the first sketch I’ve done without a tutorial (I used a reference only) and I’m actually pretty happy with how it turned out. I definitely need to work on body shape, as that stands out the most of anything to me, so that’ll be my focus on the next few sketches as I try to get things sorted out better.

Day One!

So I followed two different tutorials for this one that walked you step by step through the drawing process. Was basically hoping to get SOME idea of how exactly you draw, because I’ve never done that before. When I was done, decided to throw a scan of the pinkie into photoshop and try my hand at sketching and inking in photoshop, and while I LOVE the way the eyes came out I think that I’m going to stick to pencil and paper for a while haha.

You know what?

I’ve been planning for a while to try and draw fanart, right? Well I started yesterday going through the tutorials I can find online and seeing how things come out. I’m going to turn it into a “30 day challenge” type thing so I can push myself to do it every single day.

So since I started yesterday, and already drew something today, I’ll have two uploads (yesterday and today) then I’ll keep posting every single day and on December 10th, I’ll be able to look back and see what progress I made.

Might be fun.
