I was curious to see if there were any patterns in which astrological placements were most common in the 43 United States presidents so far. Below is a table containing the name, “rank,” sun, moon, Mercury, rising, and midheaven signs of each president.
The rank given to each president is an aggregate rank based on major polls up until 2015. (x) The colors given to each president is based on the quartile, rank-wise, of that president. Blue indicates the first quartile, Green indicates the second, Yellow indicates the third, and that PInkish-Red indicates the fourth.
Placements marked with two asterisks (**) indicates that the president’s birth time is disputed, so the placement isn’t completely official. “–” indicates that the president’s birth time is unknown and the placement cannot be found.

That’s a lot of numbers, so let’s summarize it a bit.
- The most common sun sign was Aquarius (5), and other common sun signs were Cancer, Leo, Libra, Scorpio, Capricorn, and Pisces.
- The most common moon signs were Capricorn (6 or 7), Taurus (6), and Virgo (3-6), and other common moon signs were Gemini, Cancer, and Scorpio.
- The most common Mercury sign was Scorpio (8 or 9), and other common Mercury signs were Leo and Capricorn.
- The most common rising sign was, by far, Libra (9), and other common rising signs were Taurus and Virgo.
- The most common midheaven sign was Cancer (8), and other common rising signs were Capricorn and Gemini.
However, it can be said that anybody with enough desire and luck can become president. What matters more is what makes a GOOD president. For the purpose of summarizing and convenience, a “good” president will be defined as a president in the top two quartiles rank-wise (i.e. presidents that are blue or green).
Among those good presidents alone, the most common sun signs were Aquarius and Pisces, the most common moon sign was Capricorn, the most common Mercury sign was Aquarius, the most common rising sign was Libra (6 or the 9 Libra risings were in the top two quartiles rank-wise, and the most common midheaven sign was Cancer.
So why’s that? Here’s my little attempt at an interpretation.
- Aquarius sun/Mercury and Pisces sun are both idealistic placements. They are the “dreamers” of the sun signs, and they are both creative. This can help when solving problems that require creative, unique solutions. For example, Franklin D. Roosevelt, an Aquarius, was able to conceive the New Deal, which helped the nation crawl out of the Great Depression, and James Madison is often called the “Father of the Constitution” since his writing the Federalist Papers along with our boy Alexander Hamilton helped create the Constitution, which helped establish our nation’s government.
- Capricorn moons are marked by their great determination and ambitions. Both of which are important when making executive decisions. For example, Abraham Lincoln was a Capricorn moon, and it must have taken a lot of determination and ambition to overcome so many obstacles before becoming president and to help reunite the nation after the South seceded while proclaiming the slaves in the South are free. Bluntly, that must have taken real ambition.
- Since the introduction of television, physical attractiveness and good appearance have been vital for presidents to be elected, and no rising sign encapsulates elegance, beauty, and grace as well as Libra. The first televised debate was between Libra-rising, sexy, young John F. Kennedy and old, frumpy Richard Nixon in 1960. After the debate, both people who watched the debate on television and people who heard the debate over the radio were asked who they believed won the debate. And JFK won among television-views while Nixon won among people who heard the debate over the radio. So there’s no doubt a pretty face and the peaceful disposition of Libra rising helps when you’re president.
- Cancer is the most common midheaven primarily because the most common midheaven for Libra risings is Cancer (being square from each other) however Cancers, like the crab, love to defend who and what they love, and there’s no doubt their homeland can be included in those things to be defended.
So what are the placements of the perfect president? An Aquarius or Pisces sun, Capricorn or earth moon, an Aquarius Mercury, and a Libra rising (or at least a pretty face and peaceful demeanor).

This is so good! I would also say that the most common placements of the presidents also are compatible with America’s natal chart! America’s sun: Cancer. Moon: Aquarius. Mercury: Cancer. Asc: Sagittarius. MC: Libra. As you can see, the aspects between America and the placements of common presidents are very compatible! In fact, a lot of the planets or houses have the same signs. ❤️

I think a good cross study for this would be to include the sign Saturn was in when these center presidents with their placements were elected. Since Saturn represents authority and government I feel it may play an overall scheme in how things shake out.
