Gabby

We had this conversation a few years ago and I think about it still.

Gabby is like my older sister/yoda like figure. Anything I’m dealing with she always gives advice that, actually helps shifts my perspective? We became close two years ago when we were both going through some stuff, and became even closer as we moved past our troubles.

Just watching her day to day taught me that when you can’t summon happiness from yourself- just look around and find something else, it’ll help even for just a moment. thx for seeking good when it’s so easy to just not

Hello! A big fan of your artwork 😊 I'm asking this because I'm not in animation and I'm curious - you say you did that wizard of oz thing for your portfolio. Is it normal to make personal projects solely for bulking up your portfolio? Or do you do it for some purpose and later add it to your portfolio? Just curious.

Thank you!!!! I did it to bulk up my portfolio since on my free time I’d probably do one off drawings! But it really depends on the artist!

Michelle

When I first met Michelle, I remember sensing that she was confident.

I never understood how ‘confidence’ worked but after getting to know Michelle, I realized the concept has much more to do with courage. She fights every obstacle with action- it’s her choice to face the things that scare her, and she’s constantly staring the thing that terrifies her in the face and just.doing SOMETHING. I’m lucky I get to watch you battle through your troubles

A grandfather sends his granddaughter abroad a few voicemails.

A really personal film for my final year, dedicated to my grandpa! Thank you to my friends and teachers that supported me throughout this time

Hey noor! i absolutely adore your art and as a middle-eastern girl it’s inspiring to see others in the field as well :,) however i had a question- my parents are really against me going into animation..was it the same for you? if so, do you have any advice on how you convinced them? much love ❤️

Hey,thank you so much! and god- there is a lack of middle easterners in animation, its pretty sad.

It was definitely the same!! My parents wanted me to go into computer science- they were adamant when I first told them that I would only be able to do anything art related as a minor. It was difficult, but the key is persistence and hard work.I looked up schools with credentials and tried super hard to get in. I hyped it up a lot just so they have less anxiety about me finding work. Spent most of my time drawing and improving instead of socializing at school. It wasn’t particularly healthy but it was a short term thing that helped broaden my prospects long term-and I don’t regret it. They loosened up the more they understood what animation entails and realized how serious I was about it. So research where you want to go and keep your parents in the loop every step of the way. It’ll hopefully wear them down.

Ultimately I got lucky- there’s no guarantee that by doing all these things will have it work out but I really really hope it does! Goodluck!!
