( For gluingmylifebacktogether ) Mara stops scanning the bookshelves just long enough to notice a man lost in his own world looking for a book of his own. Taking a chance to make a friend, or someone closer, she starts scanning the books over his shoulder, reaching for a random one really close to him she purposely drops it aiming it to land next to if not on his foot. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry," she says faking a blush.

Bruce blinked in surprise and glanced down to his feet to see the fallen book. He quickly scooped it up and handed it to the woman without a second thought. “No problem,” he replied, flashing a quick, false smile, before returning to his book.

A look of wonder? What would he have been… Bruce shook his head. “Alright, if you say so,” he muttered. He plucked his book back from where he’d found it and made as if to leave. “Have a nice day, ma’am.”

Fuck. Don’t ruin this nice moment Mara dear, she thinks to herself. “Hey don’t go. I am sorry. Wanna go get a cup of coffee or something?” She chuckles, sort of upset but also out of amusement, “And I do say so.” She giggles than flashes a smirk before sticking her tongue out.

Bruce blinked in disbelief, still a little put-off by her sudden shift in emotions. His uncertain gaze flickered briefly to the book in his hands before settling back on Mara. “Uh, I actually have somewhere to be soon…” he admitted, tone apologetic.

"Oh," Mara looked down, trying to hide her disappointment, "okay then. Maybe I’ll see you around the library some other time then?" She throws her hand up into the air slowly. "See you," she says, finishing the sentence in a barely audible whisper, "I guess."

  • Greet their make believe friends and ask how their day was.
  • Always kiss the teddy bear goodnight. It has feelings too.
  • Always pretend to die when they shoot you.
  • If you are having a fake war with them and you shoot them and they say they can’t die because they are invincible, you don’t shoot them again, because they are invincible.

no but seriously it’s very important to a child’s development to not be shut down by parents and other caregivers

The only thing I disagree with is the invincibility one ‘cause if my kid said they were invincible, I’d fake shoot them again in disbelief and continue to be amazed as they shrug off my fake bullets and fake kill me.

Bruce blinked confusedly, brows furrowed. “What expression?”

Looking up from the page, she studies his face for a second before answering. “You have this puzzled, confused expression right now and a few moments ago there was a look of wonder almost on your face.” She nods then goes back to reading, but this focusing more on him than the book.

The seemingly random shifts in personality were a little disarming, but it wasn’t as if Bruce couldn’t relate. “Most science fiction nerds?” he suggested, brow raised.

Mara glances up from the now opened pages of the book for a second before continuing reading, “What’s that expression?” Why was he acting so weird, she thought as her eyes scanned the words on the pages.

.Bruce narrowed his eyes a fraction as he studied her, hoping to obtain some sort of idea of what he was dealing with. She seemed odd. And not the sort of odd he was accustomed to. “Bruce,” he finally replied, tone slightly hesitant. “Are you sure you’re alright?”

Flinging her hands into the air she gets really serious, “Hey you caught me. I am not alright,” breaking severity “but I will be when I check this book out and go sit in the cafe and read it. Who knew a book about space might actually be interesting?”

"What the fuck is wrong with me?"

Mara glaces up from the work in front of her, Should I say something? Oh why the hell not Mara dear, who knows you might make his day.

"Um excuse me, but I think the answer to that question is that you are wondering what the fuck is wrong with yourself out loud in a public place," she nods her head a bit, holding back a grin.

Tony chews the inside corner of his lips and nodded. “True, but just because you like listening doesn’t mean you should or that I should stop talking.”

A slow grin spreads across his face. “I know you are.”

Watching a smile appear across his face she can’t help but smirk too, “Just teaching you a lesson. Not that you need one, but talking to yourself in public might give people a bad vibe about you.” She nods her head, speaking slowly and crisply, “they might think you have problems.”

"And what if I do have problems? Tony raises a curious eyebrow, a playful challenge. It’s about as honest as he’s going to get, all in the form of a joke. “Do I still get the lesson, or am I excused?”

"I would say you get the lesson too, but the whole world is out to teach you what lessons they deem fit, so I think you get a pass on this one," she chuckles lightly. "So you do have a problem?"

"And that’s why I don’t listen,” Tony says pointedly. “Maybe.” He shrugs. “Maybe not. Do you have a problem?”

"Like you said maybe. Maybe not," she chuckles slightly, then returns to semi-seriousness. "Because you are a stranger, a seemingly brilliant one at that, I will let you decide that answer on your own." Mara looks at him, staring ackwardly at his brown eyes, winks then looks down smirking.

Brows furrowed and warm brown eyes swept over the woman’s form, uncertain. “Why are you apologizing? You’re the one who’s hurt,” Bruce questioned with a touch of doctorly concern in his tone.

Shaking her head a bit Mara sighs, “I’m not hurt. It’s just a bit sore, always am after I run into something. And it’s just a habit, I say sorry a lot. I’m Mara,” she reaches out her hand towards him.

Tony blinks and glances over to the source of a new voice. He opens his mouth, closes it, and opens again, pointing to her with his index finger. “That…is a really good point.”

Wow, someone of equal sarcasm level? It’s like a separate species, and like all scientists, Tony is intrigued. “I happen to like thinking aloud in the open air, and I trust you not to listen,” he responds in a deadpan joke.

Mara grins a bit, quickly getting serious. “Well just because I happen to like listening to people talk in public, doesn’t mean you have to speak in public.”

She looks him in the eyes holding her straight face. Then Mara breaks- cracking up, “I’m joking. Sorry,” her giggles interrupting her apology.

Bruce barely managed not to jump at the loud thud, and he looked up in confusion, eyes roving the aisle in search of its source. When he found it, he winced and carefully placed his book back down on the shelf. “You okay?” the scientist wondered, tone apprehensive.

To embarrassed to answer, Mara nods her head. “It happens a lot. I’m used to it,” she smiles a bit, ecstatic that he noticed her but upset that it was because she embarrassed herself that he did. “Sorry about that.”

See Mara, he isn’t interested. Why would he be interested in someone younger than he is? Yeah. Mara starts walking away from the man trying not to get upset at the outcome, glacing down at the book in her hand she starts to read the blurb. Pulled back to reality with a bang and pain shooting down her head, she finally understood why her friends say not to walk and read at the same time. Looking over her should she hopes just a bit that the man didn’t see her run into the bookshelf.
