Bard, with barbarian as a runner up, seems about right. A heavy metal bard would be fun.

uh... multiclassing ftw? 😅

And much to my surprise....Wizard.

I honestly expected a higher score in Druid, but Ranger makes sense too. Surprised by the high marks in Barbarian, but I think that's the Fuck You Fight Me impulse rearing its' head lol.

I am an IRL quad class, so this checks out. The only thing surprising to me here is how high Monk and Barbarian are.

can you do talking to the dead? its honeetly eo interesting and idrc for the living lol but maybe ghosts would be more interesting to talk too i just dont know how to become a medium?

I plan on (hopefully) covering all the topics in the poll at some point or another! It's just a matter of which ones go first.

However, I will say, I don't think you have to be a medium to speak with ghosts. A medium is a specific type of person, but not all people who work with or talk to ghosts are mediums. It's a sort of square/rectangle situation. I wouldn't call myself a medium, for example, but I do work with ghosts.

Mediums, by definition, pass messages from the dead to the living. They're middle men, literally. I don't do that, and therefore, I'm not a medium. I have relationships with ghosts and commune with the dead via skills I've developed for that purpose. The information I've got on interacting with ghosts won't directly correlate to being a medium, but it might be useful? I won't make promises about it, though.

(Tbh I gave being a medium a shot many years ago and found it absolutely exhausting. Channeling ghosts' messages is hard, and people get annoyed when they don't get the answers they want. Someone who's dead isn't that different from when they were alive, after all. If your deceased great-aunt hated you in life, she's unlikely to change her opinion in death!)

I like to think of “medium” as the job title rather than the skill set. It’s a job that I also did for a while, but no longer do because I burnt out on it. I whole heartedly agree that you can develop all of the same skills and just not do the “job”.

do you have any divination opinions that aren't just "tarot is overrated"? it seems like that one is everybody's go-to

As someone who practices tarot, I too agree that it's pretty overrated. But that's beside the point.

My main opinion about divination is informed by running a tarot-reading blog (that I am thiiiis fucking close 🤏 to shuttering [my fingers are touching]). I believe that people are way too concerned about how things "will go" and aren't concerned enough with their role in it.

When I receive asks and divination requests, I notice that a lot of people are really passive in the way they frame their questions. This is most often seen in the form of "How does X feel about me?" and "How are my finals/school tests going to go?"

That second one makes me stop and go "Sugar, honey, are you studying?"

Because there are things that truly do just "happen" in life. But school tests are not one of those, especially for my college-age and college-learning querents. I understand anxiety about the test, gods know I get anxious about those too, but you can't be passive with tests. You have to actually take them and study for them.

The same, I believe, goes for connections with other people, especially through questions with implied romantic/sexual tension behind them, as is often the case for the "How does X feel about me?" type. If you want to know how X feels about you, you have to make a point to interact with and understand them. I never got questions that were geared more "active", such as "What can I do to get X to notice me?" or "What are some things I could do to better my relationship with X?"

Ignore the fact that I'm aroace and refuse to do relationship readings for a moment, because the querents looking for free readings sure do. The number of readings that I essentially "return to sender" without answering because they can't follow my guidelines is why I'm this fucking close to McSnapping.

And so many of the questions I get are just yes/no questions but reworded slightly to barely qualify as tarot-appropriate questions. Most of these rewords fail because they already assume one outcome is more inherent/innate than any others.

Thanks for sending this in, anon! I...did not realize I had this much to bitch about.

My internal answer to this question, that I'm now going to say out loud, is that people who struggle to get their divination to the next level need to learn to phrase their questions better. And that's exactly what you touched upon here.

What is the latest belief or thing you added to your faith?

Avatar

Faith specifically? That godhood is a title bestowed or earned, not an intrinsic aspect of an entity. This is a slight expansion of Stag's "spirits in silly hats" theory.

So last year I started my journey, maybe not on the crooked path, but next to it? within eyeline of it? Idk, I started seeking out The Witchfather. And things went really well, we have a good relationship going, I've expanded my craft significantly in just the 6 months since I made my pact (that sounds WAY more serious than it is, right now I have a year and a day deal going with him, we will reassess on my birthday). I also went into this relationship relatively blind to literature and prevailing ideas surrounding him. I wanted to get to know each other before I started researching him in depth.

As the weeks and months passed, I started to realize he was rather limited in power relative to what I thought a god should be able to do. Most of what we did together was tied to the forest behind my house, and his ability to act outside of my property was minimal. I have since come to the conclusion he is the spirit of that forest, not The Witchfather (capital T capital W, big daddy God [which I'm sure is a cultural Christian expectation anyway]) that I thought he was. He was simply MY witchfather. He only became a deity because I decided he was one, and from what I can tell, he does not give two shits if he is considered a god or not. He simply is a Guy who answered when I called out. I am the one who put that crown on his head, and he wears it indifferently.

So I think a lot of what makes godhood is how we as people/worshippers/whatever you wanna call us treat the entities concerned. Aphrodite is not the goddess of love, sex and beauty because of any inherent quality she possesses, the ancients just gave her that domain and she ran with it (and she's doing a wonderful job as far as I'm concerned).

This whole change in philosophy was super freeing with regard to my idea of faith and devotion. It takes the pressure off of my ideas of divinity. It is easier to approach someone when you think of them as "just some guy with a fancy title" god instead of "behold my radiance, look upon me and weep" god.

Thanks for the ask! It was nice to actually write this all out and get it to be coherent.

Avatar

A “god” is like a “king” just a guy in a funny hat with an important sounding job. People treat these guys differently because their hats are so funny and their jobs sound important. And sometimes because they come with entourages. You’d treat me like I was special if I had a really fancy hat and an entourage! But I’d still just be a guy!

Uhhhhhh, question about witchcraft or faith, uhhhh.

How did the eclipse feel to you? Friendly or fighty?

Avatar

Rowan here is referencing a bit of Returning lore that I shared on Discord - eclipses are reunions between Flint (god of the sun and fire, and other stuff) and Vega (goddess of the moon and stars, and other stuff) who are siblings. Anyone who has siblings can tell you that sometimes you love them, and sometimes you hate them. And even when you love them, you hate them, and even when you hate them, you love them. It’s a very special relationship.

Which is why I find eclipse energy fun to work with. You don’t know what kind of reunion the siblings are having until you capture the energy and analyze it! Yesterday felt good to me. I was overcome with childlike wonder at how cool our universe is. I haven’t sat down with the energy batteries I made yet and really analyzed the energy yet, but if I had to hazard a guess I would put it on the harmonious side of the scale.

I felt similarly! almost how I feel when I go back to NJ and see my brothers for the first time in months/years. I'm intrigued to see what my eclipse water wants to be used for

(also sorry if the whole siblings thing wasn't supposed to be public knowledge :X)

It’s fine! I just realized that folks probably needed some context!

worst snack in your opinion

So I'm a frequent connoisseur of human souls, and honestly, the worst snack I've ever had was a human soul with a side of mayonnaise dip. Like wtf??? Who eats their souls with mayonnaise??? That's so bizarre, honestly; I can't believe I even tried it.

But anyway, in all seriousness, I actually really don't like donuts that much (sue me). I think they usually taste weird, so I think that is it for me.

Avatar

As a ginger I’m also a connoisseur of souls, and I agree, serving them with mayonnaise is just heartbreaking. Ketchup is only marginally better. I prefer olive oil and balsamic vinegar with some herbs.

babes WHAT are we doing for the ECLIPSE 🌑

IT'S ALMOST TIME

anecdotally it sounds like BAD timing for magic(k) but we are gonna make some offerings and see what happens

I'm going to be reading The Iliad c: I think I may pray to Apollo or potentially Helios or Selene. We'll see what happens! I hope your offerings go well c:

Made some energy batteries, and made offerings to Flint and Vega - my sun and moon gods respectively.

Lol, if this joker only knew the eclipse spells discourse...

I’m doing spells, but I’m not wasting them on random people I don’t know, of any religion! I’m saving all that good good eclipse energy for myself!

That's a little selfish, those Christians could have eaten those spells. Save for the needy and pass it down.

If they want some of my spells non-eclipse I will gladly share. It’s just that eclipse spells are a special treat for me!
