Crime you are most likely to be arrested for!!!  You are already a thief!  I need my hand mirror back, Dad wants you to return the dust broom to it’s proper location and where did all my chocolate go??

This is kind of like the undercut that one of my salon gals had.  It looked really good on her and got me to wondering how it might look on me.

me when home alone: *cooks great food, cleans the entire house, does the dishes, is genuinely happy*
me when parents are home: *can't even boil water, room is constantly a mess, becomes exhausted just thinking about leaving the bedroom, is constantly annoyed*
You clean the entire house! How did I miss that? Honestly, this is how I feel too.

Invisible

Sometimes I want to be invisible.  Maybe run away for awhile and enjoy some peace and quiet - no demands, no schedules, no deadlines.  Just doing what I want to do, when I feel like doing it. And I imagine that would feel delightful

Other times I feel like I am invisible.  No one caring that I am here, acknowledging my feelings or hurts.  I quietly go about my responsibilities and no one appreciating my efforts.  Polite hellos and obligatory conversation, but no real connections.  This kind of invisible doesn’t feel so good.

Anonymous asked:

are there any cases of people believing they've turned into birds

Great question! Thanks!Well, there’s a psychiatriccondition named “zoanthropy” in which one believes one is, or is becoming ananimal. Zoanthropy is a broad term; there are more specific terms for morespecific beliefs.

Lycanthropy, for example, is probably the most common – it is the belief that one is, or cantransform into a wolf, a werewolf. But there are other forms of zoanthropy, such as galeanthropy (feline), boanthropy (bovine), ophidianthropy (snake), or kynanthropy (canine); Ifound no “official” name for bird zoanthropy (but I would go for ornianthropy, from“ornis”, the greek word for bird).

Stories oflycanthropy have actually been reported since ancient times by word of mouth. But there aren’t many cases of zoanthropy described in scientific literature - lessthan 60 since the mid-19th century! I founda review (here) thatcompiled all these scientifically reported cases of zoanthropy. It mentions 2cases of bird zoanthropy. One of the references is written in German, so… noluck there. The other one is in English, but there’s not much info on the bird case.It only refers that the patient showed bird-like behaviors for 7 days, mostlikely due to bipolar disorder.

I hope thiswas helpful!(There’s a book titled “Birdy”, by William Wharton, that you should probably check out, in case you haven’t read it yet!)

True story:  So, my parents got married when I was 9.  I was all excited because I got to be in the wedding as a Junior Bridesmaid (9 was deemed ‘too old’ to be a flower girl) and that meant a pretty dress, shoes that were dyed to match, and I got a flower crown and a bouquet.  Basically, my life was THE BEST as a feminine-socialized child in the late 1980′s.  (IT WAS MAUVE.)

okay someone help me figure out the logistics of serving a mission.

i have little to no money and little to no support. i have student loans and i recently applied to school which i could start but i would only go to one semester before deferring.

help me.

1) Student loans need to be paid off before you can serve, as you cannot have active debt while on a mission. I would see if someone in your ward (or someone they know) is hiring employees and use that money to pay off the loans. I also recommend making and sticking to a budget.

2) Support for service and paying for the mission itself will mainly come from your ward and stake if you can’t save enough on your own. The Church does not want finances to keep those who want to serve from doing so.

3) I would only do the one semester of school if you qualify for Pell Grant or scholarships or something not requiring more student loans. This is my advice though because my husband STILL is paying off college loans years after graduating and it is a right hassle.

4) You won’t be able to even start your papers until you’ve been a member for at least a year, and your availability date will have to start on or after your 19th birthday. So there’s time for the financial preparation.

5) Papers required to be completed (which you can get the Church to help with as needed):

Physical - updated medical records, a physical, certain vaccines, stuff like that. The form for the doc to fill out is provided.

Dental - dental cleaning, thorough examination for wisdom teeth and orthodontic needs, etc. Form for the doc is provided.

Psychiatric - if you have any history of mental illness, you’ll be required to do a psych eval. Mine was covered by the Church through LDS services.

6) After completing your papers you will have 2 interviews: one with your bishop, one with your stake president. Worthiness interviews are required before your papers can be sent off.

1) a man in my ward told me i can defer my student loans, he said he did it and others he knew.

2) i know my ward will support me but because im moving im worried that like.. because people dont know me they will feel less inclined to help

3) that makes sense but i still want to be able to attend when i get back and i dont know how deferring of schooling works…

4) i will have been a member for a year in january and i was baptized when i was 19 so january is the only thing im waiting for. so i have 7 months of prep time.

5) my only concern in this area is wisdom teeth because i still have mine but other than that i am a healthy person. my mental health would be an issue but the only time ive struggled with mental health issues is when i am doing things that clearly arent the right path for me (like moving to arizona.. ive been struggling recently because being here is definitely not the right path for me)

6) im not worried about the interviews. anything that i have done that would keep me from going was before my baptism. so i mean.. i guess they could ask me about it but i doubt it would keep me from serving.

Talk to your Bishop.  He will move obstacles to help you go.  There may be some work to be done, but a way will be found.

technology related sensory memories from my childhood

  • sliding the metal cover on floppy disks
  • the slight resistance of inserting cassette and video tapes
  • ripping off the strips of holed paper off of dot matrix printer paper
  • rolling the wheel on a disposable camera to take another photo
mm-imagerie

The heaviness and rubber texture of the roller ball in a computer mouse, and the little ring of lint

Unkinking the curly cord of a telephone while you talked

The -peww sound and slowly fading image of a crt monitor turning off, and then running your finger through the static on the dusty glass

The crunch of opening or closing a plastic Disney vhs cover

The sound effects in kidpix

Extending and collapsing metal antennas and using them as magic wands

Waving an overhead projector sheet so it made that artificial almost-spaceship noise

The clikclikclik of rewinding a tape casette with a pencil

Scratch and sniff stickers

The heavy feeling of a commodore 64 keyboard

Rotary phones that still worked

Thumbing through yellowpages and getting your fingers all smudged with the cheap ink

The purr of a VHS tape rewinding

The ungodly screams of a modem as it tried to find the internet

The warmth of the overhead projector glass as you turn-turn-turn the sheet try and get the image the right way up

The click, click, click of typewriter keys, then pause to untangle the couple of keys that got stuck because you typed too fast.

The slide and zip of hitting the return lever on the typewriter. (loved the little bell signaling you were at the end)

The most difficult  twisting of that tiny knob to rewind a watch.

the rhythmic click of a film strip projector, then the rapid thwack of the loose film on the reel at the end.

the slid/bump sound of advancing the View master pictures.

The hum and nonsensical pattern (later rainbow like when we had color), at the evening’s end of TV broadcasts for the day.

The unearthly slide of musical like sound up and down as we tried to tune in our transistor radios.

Kill the “Medieval Girl is “Not Like Other Girls” by wielding a sword and is therefore better than traditionally-inclined women” trope 2k16

Some of the greatest accomplishments by medieval and renaissance women were accomplished over a banquet table or tea. And there were tons of women warriors (many and most of whom merely ended up casualties of war, as was the case for most warriors of either sex).

Actually making a significant difference as a female warrior a la Joan of Arc was near-impossible. Meanwhile there were numerous Kings’ mistresses who ended wars and created public service programs like hospitals over tea and therefore had far more positive, powerful, and lasting impact upon the world we live in today than most of the warriors in history, male or female. It’s just that most female accomplishments are often written out by historians, dismissed as being nothing but frivolous partying (when in fact said “frivolous partying” did more to shape the medieval and renaissance periods than 90% of the wars fought). It was a Sumerian princess in a tower who essentially invented literature, a Japanese noblewoman attending parties who wrote the first modern novel.

Women who defied gender roles were awesome, yes. Women who used “feminine” pursuits to assert their strength were JUST AS awesome.

“Other girls” were almost ALWAYS AMAZING. Just because the dudebros who have held the pens for centuries who reinforce the idea of “traditional masculinity = strength” have written out the importance of the banquet table, chivalry, and legends DOES NOT MEAN THAT MISOGYNISTIC B.S. SHOULD BE REINFORCED NOW.

“Proper ladies” were rarely, if ever shallow or mere baby machines, even if they were treated as such. We should not be perpetuating that. The pens are in our hands now. Use them for good.

…the whole “people won’t be motivated to ~innovate~ and ~invent~ under socialism” thing is such a shameless bunch of crap. You want to talk about “human nature”: Humans are inquisitive creatures, and we make things because we want them. Innovation isn’t a rare quality bestowed only on heroic inventor-princes whose duty is to beat the dull masses into being productive. It’s as common and as much a part of our collective “nature” as violence and greed and anxiety and altruism. The point of organizing ourselves into groups–societies, collectives, whatever–should be to amplify the best aspects of ourselves and take care of each other. Otherwise what even is the point.  If we’re not taking care of each other, what are we even here for, what are we even doing.

Also, historically speaking, every major advance in science and culture has come pretty much as a direct result of decreases in the amount of labor required for survival. It should be pretty obvious that providing for everyone’s basic needs results in a lot more people who have the opportunity to follow their ideas relating to art, literature, science, inventions, and so on because they no longer need to use all of their energy working to generate wealth for the rich in order to meet their bare minimum needs of survival. Pretty much everyone I know would be eager to spend a lot of time innovating and inventing, but being forced to spend 50+ hours per week doing non-productive things to pay for food and rend really makes that difficult. So actually, it’s capitalism that pretty definitively prevents innovation.

So, historically, which economic system has actually inspired more innovation and cultural advancement?  I like to deal in statistics, not rhetoric alone.
