She stumbled, swayed, and found her balance. The red switch fell out of her hand. She hadn’t been quick enough to use it. The hand that had been holding it came up to grip her shoulder, trying to hold in…. the blood? Maybe? She couldn’t think straight enough to consider what she was trying to do.
Sarina just looked back, even if turning caused her to sway again. He was still standing. Good. She grinned, barely aware that her vision wasn’t completely focused.
"Heh… Shit… That was close, huh?"
Hayami had been reaching for his own switch when the bullet was fired, but he hadn't hit it when Sarina got in between him and it. In an instant, he was at her side, looking at her shoulder. To anyone who didn't know him, he would look and sound completely calm, but there was a strain in his voice, and his eyes betrayed both his anger and his fear for her safety.
"That wouldn't exactly be the phrase I would use. What made you do something so stupid?"
