This is the most haunting thing I’ve seen in a while

I keep thinking about this tweet, how meaningful and reassuring it was that when one pillar of my childhoods crumbled, the others stepped forward to show they would continue to shoulder the remaining weight all their own.

And this phrase in particular — “I do not think these things of you” — is such a quintessential Piercian refrain. It’s direct in a way that cuts to the core of the argument. It’s a little old fashioned, a bit clunky in its plainness. It acknowledges the distasteful power an argument may hold while simultaneously denying it room to breathe.

I keep hearing that thing Tammy said about Alanna and Kel—which itself is not particularly meaningful to me—playing in my head over and over like a mantra. Because it’s catchy.

…The clarity! The concision! The oddly plain, repetitive twist, easily avoided, that nonetheless persists and makes you stumble.

The statement cuts straight to the point, but it leaves space for you to draw the conclusion yourself. It’s instructive but not pedagogical. It’s a bit awkward, but somehow that works in its favor.

It’s a way Tammy has of writing that I (an overwriter, an overthinker) have held up in my head as a model for years. As much as I am grateful for Tammy’s consistent stance on the right side of the fight for justice, I am also grateful for her specific way with words: simple, blunt, and unadorned, which has meant something to me for so long.

Anyone else remember that scene in Bloodhound where Bekah asks a trans woman how she can just get on stage and be a beautiful woman and she was all, “It’s cuz I *am* a beautiful woman, and we have Queer mythology btw.”

she retroactively made kel ace almost on a whim and then when ace fans damn near cried with joy over it, she went all in and doubled down on it to make sure we got that protagonist representation, while also validating aces who spent a while figuring out their orientation or have dated before - a thing you NEVER see in any medium EVER tammy pierce knows damn well the power an author can wield for good, and has spent decades learning alongside her audience and trying to meet the needs of her fans in any way she can

She looks out over the empty auditorium. The lights are dim because it’s after hours and she can see each velvet backed seat, every row, every tier. It’s a beautiful space and Alex is right, the acoustics are incredible. She wonders what her father’s violin would sound like in here, what he might play. When she tugs the chair to the middle of the stage and sits down, the only music running through her mind is the one piece she still can’t bring herself to play for anyone else.

But there’s no one around. So, Kara closes her eyes and plays it for herself.

 Thanks to @coffeeshib​ for letting me steal the amnesia + wife prompt… I couldn’t help myself. This is not what I thought would come out (content warning for canon typical violence and injuries), mostly this is just Kara being a whole entire idiot and Alex facepalming and Lena just being glad Kara is there for her, as her fake wife while she recovers from another quarterly attempt on her life:

“Supergirl! You have to go!” Alex is yelling at her as they roll Lena into the emergency room at National City General, but Kara is rooted to the spot - she can’t look away. Lena is pale, too pale, and there’s blood all over her dress, cuts and scrapes and bruises already blooming on every piece of exposed skin. She isn’t moving, isn’t breathing on her own right now; the only air making its way into her body is through the ambu bag being operated by a nurse, as women and men in scrubs crowd around the moving gurney, shouting orders. And all of that is terrifying enough, but it isn’t the thing that’s paralyzing Kara.

The reason Kara can’t move, the reason that she is barely breathing, is that she can’t hear Lena’s heart.

“Kara.” Alex is closer now, she steps gently in front of her sister, dropping her voice so that no one else can hear her. “Kara, you have to go, they’re getting away.”

“Alex - “ Kara takes a step forward, as if to walk around her sister, to head towards the doors that Lena and the medical team are disappearing behind.

“I know, Kara, I know,” Alex says, gentle and quiet. The doors shut, and Kara’s eyes snap away from it to her sister’s face. Alex looks as terrified as Kara feels; she’s wearing an expression Kara has only seen on her before when it’s Kara who’s hurt. “You can’t do anything for her right now. But you can get the guys who did this.” She reaches for Kara’s arm, squeezes - the pressure is grounding. “You need to go. You need to go right now.”

So Kara goes.

I love how people catch the silly little details. So far everything I deliberately put in has been commented upon in some way except for one, that I know of. XD

“They were roommates”, “slice of life” is a slice of cake, hurt/comfort is a checkerboard cake and there’s a knife stabbed right into it, angst is someone’s “jam”, the pining section has pine tree shaped cookies, the vampire AU is a bloody mary, red cup is a “solo” cup, the “Add Shots” menu lists “protein” and “facial” as the top two items, and the concentrated citrus the bird-tender offers is a carton labeled “Only One Bed”.

The only thing I haven’t seen hashtagged or commented on is that the drunk sex is angsty because the relationship is “on the rocks”.
