How The Mighty Fall [ In Love ]
It was supposed to be simple; easy, even. That's what he'd told Skye when she worried. He couldn't fault her - he was nervous too. It seemed to be a recurring theme when there was any chance of danger, that's what happened when you actually had something to lose, right? The thing most people don't understand about mates, specifically alpha mates, was the connection they really felt; as if they had one mind in two bodies, feeling the same emotions, the same pain. Which led them to now, only minutes after the meeting with another pack had gone south, and he froze in his spot.
"Skye." The name passed his lips in surprise before he even realized he was forming the thought, gaze darting around the warehouse he was in. Where was she? His heart raced, panic swelling in him as he dropped the beta he'd been fighting onto the floor and trying to scent out where she was. Derek could feel the pain, nearly clouding his mind as he searched for her. The pack's cries to ask where he was going were muffled, a distant sound as he looked for Skye frantically, voice hoarse as he called her once, twice, three times. His voice only got higher and shakier with each shout.
That's when he found her, lying on the ground of the second floor of the warehouse. He shook his head frantically, crashing to his knees beside her and scooping her up onto his lap as he leaned back on his haunches. "Hey, you're going to be okay," He mumbled, ignoring the own pain he felt screaming that he was wrong. Derek shook his head, moving his hand to where the blood seemed to be coming from, trying to take some of the pain from her. "You're going to be fine, baby, you've just got to heal."
