As a public service announcement, someone scraped every single text file on GameFAQS in March 2020 for archival purposes, and you can find it on archive.org with the title "Gamespot TXT GameFAQs - Full Archive." You can download the whole thing (it's about 2 gigs) if you want to spite Wikia's attempts to make themselves the gatekeepers of all fan knowledge.

you can literally say anything to men, it doesn’t matter

It is really funny how much some tumblr users build their understanding of what is taboo in a degenerate immoral fashion vs what is taboo in a subversive radical fashion exclusively on aesthetic appeal so they’re willing to drastically alter their moral stances based on what media they’re obsessing over currently

Blogger obsessed with posting about sexual cannibalism and toxic doomed yuri complaining about incest fetishization… you’re two Ginger Snaps gifsets and a Flowers in the Attic excerpt away from trying to recreate Single White Female with your mutuals

I was initially confused as to why cannibalism was being compared to incest, but then I realised that the sentence "eating your sister" can be read two different ways.

What I find really really compelling about Laios' special interest is this:

As a person who's special interest is dogs, I'll tell you right now that I fucking love them. I live in a city full of strays, and I actively go out of my way to pet, play with, and interact with them. It brings me a lot of joy and comfort to be able to be surrounded by puppies.

I will also be the first to tell you that, like it or not, dogs are animals - and animals, ultimately, can be unpredictable. They can be scared, they can be territorial, and they can be impulsive. And while I genuinely believe that there's no such thing as a bad dog or an angry dog - only a scared one - I also don't believe it makes a functional difference once a dog has bitten you what intentions it may have had.

Dogs are dangerous. I've seen people get bitten, I've been bitten, I've had close calls, some of which were my own fault and others which were not.

And Laios reflects this so beautifully, especially in the Kelpie arc. He's not blinded by his love for these creatures, he's not overtaken by baseless empathy - he understands, understands better than anyone, that these are at the end of the day monsters, and they are dangerous, and when push comes to shove sometimes you've just got to kill them. In fact it's his love for them that lands him this knowledge and understanding in the first place - just as I know that there's no room for fear and weakness when it comes to interacting with dogs, he knows there's no room for hesitation and empathy when it comes to interacting with montsers.

It's so fucking realistic of someone who genuinely researches and cares about these creatures, rather than superficially "liking animals" and then trying to assign human qualities to inherently inhuman creatures.

God.

Laios is fantastic fucking representation.

Tbh Laios's attitude (And dungeon meshi in general) also vibes with how I feel about domestic/farm animals in general. The chickens, cows, goats, horses, etc.

I truly do love them. I think they're wonderful, and enjoy learning more and more about them, and how to care for them. I think they have an internal world, with curiosity and fear, delight and worry. Of course they can feel pain.

I also believe that it's not monstrous to eat them.

It's not hypocritical, or 'psychopathic', or any of the other (much nastier) names I've been called by folks who have asked me to explain how I could raise an animal from birth and still kill and eat it after.

It's... idk, loving? Grateful? A little sorrowful, in a 'this is the last time we'll see each other' kind of way.

I loaded some cattle into a trailer last week. Most went to auction, to be sold to another farm. One young steer went to be slaughtered, and his meat will be sent back to us after the butcher finishes processing it all.

I reached in and rubbed between his ears, once he'd been loaded. Gave him some sweet alfalfa-and-molasses treats to distract him from the nervousness of an unfamiliar trailer. Explained what was going to happen next, apologized, even if he doesn't understand english.

Like... I don't hate this animal. I don't want him to suffer. I don't want him to die, there's no malice here. I just need to eat to keep living. We gave him two years of green pastures, the safety of domesticity, medicine when he got injured, shade from the heat and shelter from the cold. Two years of chasing ducks at the watering hole and successfully begging for sweets, in exchange for One Bad Day.

And now he'll feed my family for more than a year.

This is a mindset that I've had since childhood, being raised on a farm. That living things need to eat other living things, and that's not evil, it's just Life.

Plants make noise when distressed, did you know? They react to light, and to vibration, and to smells on the wind. Slowly, to our perception of time, but they do react. I think plants can also 'think', in a way. I think they can feel. They certainly do react to harm like they can feel pain.

Some plants can see so well that they can mimic the shape and color of a plastic plant placed on the other side of a window. They'll grow roots through bones and flourish when blood is spilled on their soil.

A cow will eat carrion, if it's available. A horse will eat eggs and birds alike, if it finds a nest while grazing. Chickens readily eat each other. All of them would happily eat me, if I were to die out in the field and they were hungry.

We're all willing to eat each other.

We have that in common.
