important words from katya [x]
It’s hard to actually take details from your personal life and apply them a scene because, as much as you can identify with a feeling, you just get muddled. As soon as you start bringing your own stuff in, it’s like, ‘No, that’s not right.’ You’re playing a different person. You can relate, but you have to leave that stuff at the door.

Lin comes up to me to shake my hand, and I slapped his hand away and said, “Get the fuck out of here,” and I gave him a big hug. I was starting to lose it, and I go, “I just need a second, I gotta figure out what I’m gonna say.” And he starts to cry! And he goes, “You don’t understand, you’re the reason this show exists.” And I went, “I’m sorry, what?!” And he goes, “You! The West Wing! You’re the reason! Did you see me do this?” He put his hand to his heart, and I went, “Yeah, I did notice that.” He said, “I was showing off, because I knew you were in the audience!” I have never been so proud to be associated with The West Wing, as I was in that moment. The greatest piece of art created in my lifetime was a response- or inspired by- The West Wing. – Richard Schiff on meeting Lin-Manuel Miranda for the first time after a Hamilton performance
