luck vs finally
These are all Hatter’s words. He associates good ‘luck’ with Jack for being Alice’s boyfriend, a prince born to privilege, and a high-ranking rebel. He wishes he was the one with her but, after a lifetime of being let down by those he’s loved, he doesn’t feel worthy. It’s why he so easily let’s her go when he almost has her. He never once fights to be with her. If there’s someone he deems is better, he’s not going to stand in the way because he wants what’s best for her. He only fights to keep her safe and to earn her trust. ‘Finally’ is what he truly wants, finally with her. In the end, he realizes he is worthy of her love which helps him find the courage venture forth to put his heart on the line. Only then is he finally able to be with her.
