It’s time for another milestone giveaway! We’re doing painted portraits again, but this time I wanted to come up with a more streamlined way of working visual symbolism particular to your OCs- or your interpretations of canon characters- into the final piece. So-

☼ Reblog this post to enter! Followers only, but new followers are welcome as per the ush- It doesn’t matter when you got on board as long as you’re here. Likes don’t count as entries this time around. ☼ If you win, I’ll need a few things from you:    ☀ A link to reference of the original character you want drawn, or let me know which canon character you’d like drawn. Original/fan characters are eligible, as are canon characters from series I’ve drawn for before on this blog.    ☀ A character trait. Think about those character memes that tell you to select the traits that apply to your/the character from a list- Is your character bold? Temperamental? Timid? Flashy? Clever, impulsive, withdrawn? Which of these characteristics would you most like to focus on for this piece? If you’d like, you can expand on the trait you chose- Your character might be “impulsive” in a particular way or circumstance. The more detail you give me, the closer I’ll get to what you have in mind!    ☀ A single visual element that you consider important to the character. It can be a physical trait (hair, eyes, a scar), an item (a necklace, a feather, a particular sort of flower, water, bones, gold, the sky), a color, a pattern- Pretty much anything as long as it’s a thing that can be seen. Again, you can explain, and I’d love it if you did. Is the scar important because the character is proud of it? Ashamed of it? Or is it just a key feature of their physical looks? If it’s a more obscure item, do you feel like the character has things in common with the item? Does the item say something about them? ☼ Ultimately, I’ll use all that information to build the final piece! For example, in the personal piece linked above, I made a list of broad characteristics that apply to my OC. Words like “withdrawn” and “pessimist” showed up on the list- Along with a few that were more things she does, like “artist” and “mage”. I eventually picked “pessimist”. The visual element I chose was her hair- It’s a double whammy, in that as a character she’s really proud of it and uses it to cover her cropped ear, and visually it really defines a lot of her look. So, using that trait and her hair as starting points, I built an image that centered around both. Since Nise interacts with her pessimism in a way that’s destructive and limiting to her as a person, I twisted her hair into the shape of a noose to make a grim image that seems to suggest that that aspect of her own identity might eventually hang her. ☼ While the example is an OC, this could be fun for canon characters, too- Maybe you really like Cullen’s scars, and want a piece highlighting how brave he is- Or any other combination of your fav things about your favs!
