there's something very uniquely evil in the fact that the food aid dropped to gazans by the US wasn't halal

if that strikes you as naive or nonsequitur, i want you to put yourself into the shoes of a palestinian in the gaza strip, suffering untold famine and trauma at the hands of israel and the US empire, living through a genocide of everyone you've known and loved.

now imagine that the only food that you can eat is food that violates your religious dietary restrictions, sent straight from the people who are supplying the bombs and guns for you to be killed.

is that not, too, a form of ethnic cleansing? of erasure?

I shall pass through this world but once, any good thing therefore I can do, or any kindness I can show to any human being, let me do it now, let me not defer it or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.

person who will lose their job: the guy who had to try and steer a massive cargo ship with no power in a sandstorm

person who should lose their job: the guy who decided to build a cargo ship longer than the suez canal is wide without considering the obvious corner case (or more likely, the guy who dismissed the possible corner case as unlikely and the profits worth the risk)

yyyyyeeeeeeeep.

This article talks about the “notion of an 18,000 TEU container ship” being a nightmare.

the basic emotional condition of capitalism is anxiety, fueled by insecurity. one of the most common, yet most effective, rhetorical moves used by the apologists of capital is to present this motive force as aspiration, rather than terror - that is, to disingenuously figure the motion of the system as a running-to, instead of a running-from. it is like if the camera were only ever positioned behind indiana jones, following him as he “aspires” to reach the exit of the cave, not once turning around to reveal the colossal stone sphere just inches from crushing him

It's hard to explain how alienating the media has been this year as an "essential worker". Every single piece of media produced this year is about how "we're all" stuck inside all the time now, and I'm just like..... I got two weeks at home when I actually had covid and otherwise have gone to work every single day I normally would. All these adverts and news show lines about how we're all in this together and we're all spending our days baking banana bread and zoom calling and all this and I'm like..... Well, not all of us I guess. And it's weirdly alienating and makes you feel weird and cut off

we need to talk about this more. being forgotten by capitalism is deeply terrifying, because when we’re not marketable we don’t exist.

I don’t even know anyone irl whose lives have been truly disrupted like that, who’ve only been leaving their house for groceries or food and to come back or whatever. Literally everyone I know is an essential worker. No one at any point worked from home. It’s been plainly spelled out that I and everyone I love are completely disposable in such a blatant way.

might get crucified for this but destiel could’ve been it

if there was a play about an angel who pulled a repressed homosexual man out of hell and fell in love with him then yes i’d post snippet quotes from it. you would too. we all would.

Don't get me wrong everything on Tumblr has been hilarious about this but nothing will come close to the emotion I felt when I came into work this morning and was greeted with teary-eyed laughter by my coworker who has a supernatural tattoo
