Manny, Nayim, Shikha, and Talia have led DRUM campaigns on immigrant rights, educational justice, and police accountability for years, and are now asking to organize and lead others with DRUM and beyond. This spring, all four of them got trained in the School of Unity and Liberation's National Youth Organizing Training Institute. This summer, we are very excited to bring them on as summer organizing fellows where they can get hands on experience in organizing our base for campaigns, programmatic expansion, and DRUM’s 15th annual summer youth organizing institute. However, it is not easy for working class youth, who often work multiple jobs to support their families and pay tuition, to be able to dedicate the necessary time to fully immerse themselves in the organizing work.
We are reaching out for your support to help us raise funds to be able to provide decent stipends for the summer so that they don’t have to take on additional jobs, and can concentrate on their development.
We thank you for your contribution to the growth and development of working-class organizers and leadership.
Link to donate is at the top, and campaign ends August 30, 2015.

From a very young age, people are taught that an oppressed person being impolite is a much worse offense than a privileged person being violent.
Ok so now there’s some post going around about how not all Zionists are bad and that hating Zionists is antisemitic, and that there are Zionists who are critical of Israel. Well that’d be nice if it was true, but the post frames Zionism as simply wanting Jewish people to be safe, and anyone opposed to Zionism wants Jewish people to be harmed. That really only makes sense if you’re disingenuous about the roots of Zionism in Herzl’s vision of settler-colonialism and entering Palestine.
“Shall we choose Palestine or Argentine? We shall take what is given us, and what is selected by Jewish public opinion. The Society will determine both these points.
Argentine is one of the most fertile countries in the world, extends over a vast area, has a sparse population and a mild climate. The Argentine Republic would derive considerable profit from the cession of a portion of its territory to us. The present infiltration of Jews has certainly produced some discontent, and it would be necessary to enlighten the Republic on the intrinsic difference of our new movement.
Palestine is our ever-memorable historic home. The very name of Palestine would attract our people with a force of marvelous potency. If His Majesty the Sultan were to give us Palestine, we could in return undertake to regulate the whole finances of Turkey. We should there form a portion of a rampart of Europe against Asia, an outpost of civilization as opposed to barbarism. We should as a neutral State remain in contact with all Europe, which would have to guarantee our existence. The sanctuaries of Christendom would be safeguarded by assigning to them an extra-territorial status such as is well-known to the law of nations. We should form a guard of honor about these sanctuaries, answering for the fulfillment of this duty with our existence. This guard of honor would be the great symbol of the solution of the Jewish question after eighteen centuries of Jewish suffering.” (Herzl 1896)
From the beginning, Zionism is not just about safety for Jewish people, and incorporates a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Theodor Herzl paints all of Asia as “barbarism,” again showing that racism & Zionism have been linked in theory and in praxis. Ignoring also the Ottoman occupation of Palestine, no mention is made of what the people living there would think, just concerns about winning over the Sultan. In other parts, Herzl wishes for an aristocratic republic, and advises against pure/direct democracy; the second-class status for east African refugees from Ethiopia & Eritrea, and the apartheid in Israel really hammers this point in today. The post also ignores that many goy are & were Zionists/supported Zionism from the get-go. The most staunch allies of Israel today are the US, UK, lead and populated mostly by goy; the Christian right in the US domiantes right-wing politics and is a very vocal supporter of Israel & Zionism. As for the claim that Zionism is unrelated to Israel: Zionists founded Israel, and support Israel today. Playing “not all Zionists” is disingenuous or plain ignorant of history. Yes antisemitism in anti-Israeli politics and scenes exists and should be confronted, but the way to confront it is to analyze material conditions and the ideological superstructure, rather than reducing it to a sectarian conflict. Opposing colonialism isn’t antisemitism. Zionism cannot function without settler-colonialism. Hence, opposition to Zionism is opposition to settler-colonialism and imperialism.
