coming here is awfully bleak :(

What has changed: I’ve lost many followers and gained almost as many back in porn blogs. Realising how deeply personal Tumblr ended up being for me was startling, even if our identities are performed. I no longer have a place to confide in and I’ve kind of gotten used to that. Anyway, I’m going to delete this very soon. bye friends xx My Instagram is @pual_suth if you want to keep in touch :)

I was tagged by @morganathewitch - thanks for roping me back onto Tumblr, Ida ;)

Rule #1: Always post the rules

Rule #2: Answer the questions from the person who asked, then write 11 new ones.

Rule #3: Tag 11 people

Rule #4: Tell the person that tagged you that you’ve answered their questions.

1. You can live in any fictive universe, which one would you choose and why? I don’t know enough about fiction so I’ll be boring and say Middle Earth? 2. Did you have a favorite place to go to when you were little and if so, where was it? I can’t remember. Maybe Hammond Park, where we’d climb the “huge” rock water feature with at least four signs on the bottom level reading “keep off”.

3. Do you see yourself as an imaginative person? To an extent, yes! I’d like to differentiate creative and inspired from imaginative, though.

4. Can you see yourself living without animals in your home? Of course I can see that. I don’t want that, though. :( 5. Have you a wish to see a certain place in the world? Many places in the world. Currently on my list are Scotland, New Zealand, the Pacific Northwest, Japan... 6. Name a villain that you relate to, tell us about them and your relation to them! Satan :P Sarcastic answer. I’m still not very well versed in fiction. But maybe, because he’s taken too seriously by people who aren’t familiar with him? 7. Name two favorite books and compare them. Are they very different? What makes them special to you? Childhood favourite: Darkfire by Chris d’Lacey. (even though I was growing out of the series by the time it was released). Adult favourite: The Radicant by Nicolas Bourriaud. The former was special to me because that series was to me what I guess Harry Potter was to a lot of people around me. It was the only series where I truly felt invested in the characters, and reading it on my bed underneath the aircon in the summer is one of my fondest memories. The latter is special to me because it helped solidify my drive to pursue art and academia, which I feel, needs constant reassurance. I’m freaking out over Honours at the moment, like I’m still far too underread to do well, and that I could give up on photography and art in an instant. It’s a major part of my personality though; the ability to burn bridges / try new things / always feel contrived about my passions. :( 8. Do you dream a lot when you sleep? I sure do! A lot of my recent dreams have been unsettling, and featuring banal household objects as well as people I no longer speak to, in surreal situations. 9. If you could meet any wild animal, which one would you like to come face to face with and why? A lion, because I love cats and I imagine they would have such pride and wisdom in their eyes. :’)

10. Do you believe in fate? If so, can you name an event that feel fated that happened to you? In the back of my mind I’m a little superstitious, but I try not to acknowledge it. Someone gave me a glass jar filled with paper stars as a cute gift. We parted ways somewhat inamicably, but I left the jar under my bed for, like, five years and kind of imbued it with all of the thoughts I had about them. I finally dealt with it physically, and not long after, someone wonderful walked into my life :3 11. Do you have a favorite science? If so, which one and why? Is linguistics a science? I think it could be. Kind of. I’ve talked to a friend-of-a-friend from Colombia, and she speaks Spanish, English and French (in that order respectively). She says she’s a different person when she speaks in each language, and I totally understand what she means, because my Swedish-speaking self is not the same as my native English-speaking self, and that fascinates me. I also love etymology and phonology and contemporary sociolinguistics. :’) My questions: 1. Why do you use Tumblr? 2. What has been the highlight of 2016 for you so far? 3. Is there anyone you have recently reconnected with? Who are they to you? 4. When do you usually sleep? 5. What was the last thing you ate? 6. What was the worst, and best, thing that happened to you this week? 7. What are you looking forward to in February? 8. Are you in any way superstitious? If so, about what? 9. What was the last album you listened to? 10. Would you rather be outdoors in the rain, or indoors on a sunny day? 11. Would you rather not have knees, or not have elbows? TAGGING

things that are hilarious:

  • the fact that Tumblr’s userbase is largely comprised of jaded, cynical, broke-ass 16-25 year olds who hate capitalism, use adblocking software and are as such incredibly resistant to targeted marketing
  • Yahoo’s desperate, pitiful attempts to monetise the site in spite of this
  • the massive, massive losses they’re incurring as a result

You might have noticed, I'm barely using Tumblr these days. I might be back every so often, like I am now, for posting things too personal or pertaining to interests too specific for Facebook. However, if any of you would like to stay in contact with me in a more active and less ambient way, this is my Facebook url, and you can feel free to add me. www.facebook.com/paul.najs

siiiick 2016 will bring a new host to Behind The Mirror. I knew there was a good reason for my obsessive splurge on albums yesterday.

Really feel like I can call myself an "emerging artist", hehe :D Sold my first 100x150cm print from my first conceptual body of work to an academic. And another was bought by a curator!
