I would be more enthusiastic if I weren't so tired

@girlwhocriedsupernova / girlwhocriedsupernova.tumblr.com

she/her, 30s, trans lesbian, neurodivergent. Technically Christian, but please don't tell anyone. My blog is mostly about lgbt stuff, disability, socialism, memes, and occasionally theology. Used to work in astrophysics, but my work was not in supernovae. Some of my special interests that I don't blog about as much are math and science and the Doctor Who extended universe. I do tutoring for a living so feel free to get in touch if you know someone who needs help in math/science.

i don't know how to explain this without it getting taken in bad faith but people need to apply the same energy and fervour for decolonization they have for israel to canada, the us, and australia

"israelis had 75 years to move" you live in canada. you literally live in canada.

my criticism here is that people are able to imagine potential futures for palestine that they would never apply to the imperialist fascist settler colonizer states that they live in and benefit from because intrinsically western people do not see the middle east as a real place populated by real people. what does a free palestine actually look like to you, white american? can you imagine it?

its really crazy how people love to blorbopost about how their blorbo is a War Criminal Scrunkly but those same people will act like you ate their dog if you so much as imply that scrunkly has any textual relation to sexual violence

like there is such a huge contingent of people to whom War Crimes are a funny imaginary fake thing but sexual assault is Real and Serious and yknow to point out the extermely obvious it is because they are mostly usamericans/imperial core residents and therefore they can imagine one type of harm befalling them (therefore making it Real and Serious) and not the other (thereby making it Funny)

it's interesting no? how tme feminists in the west will make excuses for the transmisogynie of previous feminist movements, saying of course if we had known then what we know now it would've been different but we didn't so we just kinda have to take the good with the bad, and then they will look at other countries with the western-chauvinist double assumption that their feminism is behind western feminism and that there are no trans women there as there were no trans women in the west back then – İ mean, we didn't know – and so we have to accept transmisogynist tendencies if we want them to get to our level so that one day tme feminists in the global south and in east asia, too, will be able to say, if we had known about trans women then it would've been different, but we didn't, so we kind of have to take the good with the bad

Time.

Updated this piece since it was my hardest to read comic. Also, I hate to do this, I truely do. I feel bad asking since I feel like I offer nothing in return. But right now I need some small assistance affording my adhd meds so I can keep making comics. If you would wish to support me you can use my Tip link here. All of will go to medical bills. https://ko-fi.com/welldrawnfish

After the White House cancelled the annual Iftar due to Arab and Muslim Americans collectively rejecting the invitations, the WH turned it into a small ‘meeting’ with six Muslim Americans including an Imam. Dr. Thaer Ahmad, a physician from Chicago who had traveled to Gaza earlier this year with a delegation of doctors, showed up and handed Biden a letter from an 8 year old girl in Gaza. He then walked out, saying “I wanted a chance to stand up and walk away from the people making decisions the way they are walking from my people.”

god i seriously can't get over the xz/liblzma exploit

like

  • someone takes over a popular widely used open source project and starts subtly introducing malicious code into it (i.e., not an account compromise, the dev was bad from day 0)
  • the dev eliminates sandboxing functionality and other things that could have caught this
  • ultimately culminating in RCE over ssh, compiled into the library via the rat's nest of configuration scripts
  • since the guy has been contributing to the project for so long, the only version of the code we know hasn't been tampered with is years old
  • this only gets caught because one guy notices a lot of cpu usage for sshd in a way that perf can't symbolize

people are speculating the guy that did this is a nation-state actor because who the fuck else would have the patience to do this for multiple years

Yeah this one is amazing. My mastodon timeline has been people freaking out about this one and how we need to restructure the whole open source infrastructure and divert a bunch of money to open source maintenance to make sure this never happens again. It's wild.

We also suddenly can't trust the machines of the people who build the Linux distributions!

Because the kind of people who package up software for Debian or whatever tend to be the people trying new packages... Meaning they all had the hacked version. Why's that matter? We don't know what it does yet! Their computers could be completely compromised and sneakily adding other backdoors into code, so even if we have them re-package it without the hack, it could get added back in (possibly in some other program or package) by their computer which we can't trust anymore.

This is a huge disaster. Like, it seems like we avoided most of the damage, if this had gotten rolled out, half the servers on the internet could have been hacked into, but we are only hoping that it isn't worse than it appears. We might have the whole Debian (and several other distributions) packaging infrastructure compromised.

There's a lot of working going on now to rebuild all the Debian packages on new hardware that we're sure isn't compromised, and ensuring those results match the possibly compromised machines, which'll have to be cleaned because we don't know (and maybe never will know!) what has been done to those computers.

It's wild. I'm glad I'm not currently doing a Linux distribution for my job, this is the kind of shit I normally would have to be doing overtime to fix, as this sort of continuous-integration shit is my normal job.
