for those wondering why Republicans (like mitch mcconnell) are suddenly willing to contradict their own rules on a new SCOTUS in an election year compared to just 4 years previously, just imagine how you’d feel in this scenario; A Republican president is finishing up his second term when a SCOTUS seat opens. Democrats want to wait till election so people can decide since it’s unlikely the incumbent can win again, let alone run, and gives republicans a free seat on SCOTUS even if they lose the presidency. Somehow those democrats managed to hold the seat long enough for their president to take over and suddenly fill the seat with loyalists that look unqualified with the “D” attached to the president and administration. Cut to 4 years of enduring a Democrat running your country into the ground only to learn that in an election year they might lose, another SCOTUS seat opens! Only this time Democrats want to fill it on the excuse that their side has a chance to win and have a second term so it’s not controversial to appoint yet another SCOTUS since the people expected at least 4~8 years of this Democratic President so better safe than sorry.
This is why I’m so against a 2 party system. This petty bullshit gunks up the functioning of government. So much time wasted trying to trick or outwit your LITTERAL ALLY for imaginary points in real people’s head’s. Fuck whatever American Politics & Government is cuz it ain’t no democracy till we fix what’s broke. Go Vote or I’ll find you and make you watch every episode of “One Piece” till you speak Japanese.

It’s not just Tumblr, people. This shit is getting ridiculous.
Of course it’s not Tumblr! They came for Craigslist personals first because that’s the oldest trick in the book: Sneakily taking down the ‘perverts’ under the guise of vague, high morality goals and working slowly up from the bottom, picking off larger and larger targets. Few people cared about CL because of the stereotype of scary unwashed creeps trawling for sex online. That wasn’t so familiar or cute so it was fair game.
Tumblr is biting at the ‘artists’ heels and suddenly there is a bit more noise, because artists aren’t supposed to be treated like shit, are they? However even now the hair-splitting over what’s porn and therefore garbage and not-art shows that attitudes are not so different. It’s still the same divisive, dangerous us v.s. them mentality that is so easily exploited.
This is why when people tell me I shouldn’t worry about this because ‘my art isn’t porn anyway’ it makes me angry. It means so much more than drawings or a silly blog. This is about people being slowly phased out of their freedoms, rights and agency. History has shown time and time again that whenever power wants to make a crushing move backwards, it comes for what it declares ‘obscene’ first. People are raised to be scared and ignorant of sex so it’s an easy gateway. When they come cracking down on sex is when we most need to pay very close attention. They are not protecting us.
Yeah. This isn’t about whether *you*, specifically, don’t want NSFW content shoved in front of your eyeballs, it’s about whether the people who want to see NSFW content have the right to see it *at all*.
It’s also about what counts as ‘nsfw’ or ‘pornographic’ content. The article hints at it but doesn’t state it directly, but LGBT content - any LGBT content, even the most G-rated or strictly informative kind - is usually an early target in the name of ‘cleaning up’ a website. (YouTube, for example, is already guilty of doing this.)

The quote above does not turn up any results in Google outside of Tumblr; but in 2009, Muntazer al-Zaidi wrote “Why I threw the shoe” about his reasoning & actions. He deserves not to be misquoted & to actually have his own words heard & elevated.
The Washington Post has an article up about al-Zaidi for the tenth anniversary of the shoe throwing incident, that also goes into more detail on the political context at hand & how al-Zaidi was imprisoned and tortured afterwards.
His bravery & conviction are commendable, and both those articles are worth the read.

This is directed at Caster Semenya. She is a cis black woman, (who has naturally highish levels of testosterone) and she is an incredible athlete. This is misogynoir and transphobia all wrapped up in one shitty package backed up by shitty science and nowhere near enough data. It is a moral and ethical failure by the IOC, and it cannot go uncontested.

compare literally any female olympic competitor’s times to what the average men do and you’ll see the extraordinary women generally exceeding men there as well.
there was also a study of testosterone levels of athletes competing at the track & field world championships and they were unable to even find a correlation between testosterone levels and performance
if you don’t know about caster semenya & the shit she’s been put through PLEASE read up on it, i remember her first olympic scandal (she literally was unaware she was intersex until testing at the games, & the rest of the world found out at the same time) but i realize many people are now young enough to not know about it
