one of my favourite things about art is how fragile it is. you can spend months working on a drawing, a piece of writing and it can so easily be destroyed. a broken canvas, a deleted file, the swift press of the backspace key and it’s gone. the same can be said about anything that’s created by hand, but it’s different with art. there’s the physical work and the mental work of art but also the emotional. art is all about expressing the inexpressible and that takes a lot of complicated emotion to do. i think about all the things that are too hard or too scary or too much to express otherwise. emotions that we shield and protect from being seen. but then they transform into art, into physical things. we don’t think of them as vulnerable anymore but they are, in a different way. they are still the raw edges of us put to paper or music or ink and they still hurt, they still break.
