Camp Three Peaks is a rustic, Christian summer retreat for teenage girls! A week of hiking, adventure, and communing with the God of its 19th-century founders… a God that doesn’t traditionally number people like 13-year-old Charlie Lamonte among His (Her? Their? Its?) flock.

The only black camper in the group, and queer besides, she struggles to reconcile the innocent intent of the trip with the blinkered obliviousness of those determined to keep the Three Peaks tradition going. As the journey wears on and the rhetoric wears thin, Charlie can’t help but poke holes in the pious disregard this storied sanctuary has for outsiders like herself—and her fellow camper, Sydney.

Someone call a doctor, because doing this painting killed my hands. Good gravy. That foliage. HOWEVER. Finally, with some help and encouragement I managed to get through it. Special thanks to my fiance for carrying me through and not letting me die in a deep, deep sea of despair  :D

please respect people who are mentally ill and disabled who cannot work. please respect people who look like they’re just relaxing all day when really they’re waging an internal war just to stay alive or fight their pain. please respect people who could not finish school, people who had big plans and could not see them through because of disability. people who look from the outside like they’ve “given up” or “aren’t doing anything.” people who are hospitalized repeatedly or permanently, and people who are grown adults who are still dependent on others. please respect disabled and mentally ill people. 

this is not a polite suggestion, by the way. it’s an angry demand. we are people, and we deserve the same respect as anyone else.

I needed! This! Today! 

I am sadly currently unable to work. I was laid off twice and had to quit my most recent job, after making about four trips to the hospital between February and now. My mental illness makes it really hard for me to leave the house and focus on work, in addition to having more frequent breakdowns that send me to the hospital for days at a time. I try to do lots of cleaning around my house to “make up for it”, and I do art, but I don’t feel like I have worth if I am not being productive in a capitalist sense.
