This bird is called Riekko in Finnish. In Finnish folklore, souls of murdered, unwanted children, were said to appear in a form of a bird called Ihtiriekko. Ihtiriekko mimicked people’s voices, spoke to travelers trying to tell who had murdered it, and overall cried, wailed and spoke to people. People usually encountered Ihtiriekko in forests.
Listening to Riekko here, it is easy to imagine why a murdered child would appears as Riekko, as they have very human-like voices.
