Hey everyone.

So I don’t post as often on tumblr these days, but I was kind of suggested to do this by some friends. Today, I started a gofundme page to help afford the medical bills I have received, and will receive, for the treatment of my cat, Snickers.

Most of the information can be found by following the link, but to summarize it briefly, my cat has recently been struggling with what we believe is some kind of blocked urinary tract. I have been to the emergency vet, after he began bleeding excessively from his urethra, and they only ruled out possibilities of what it could be. They instructed us to go to a normal vet the next day, but due to a lack of funds we have only been able to continue with antibiotics and painkillers given by the emergency vet.

It seemed to have gotten better at first, but has since seemed to worsen and as a result I’m desperate to get my cat to a vet and receive the care he needs. In simple terms, Snickers if my family. He is the love of my life and I would do anything to get him better. I’ve had him since he was 4 months old and he’s only 4 years now. This shouldn’t have to be the end for him just because I can’t afford a few medical costs.

As a result, I would be more than overwhelmingly thankful towards anyone who would be able to share this post or offer donations towards paying off the past and upcoming medical bills. Even if you can’t donate, your shares still mean a lot to me, and I thank each and every person who even takes a moment to send good prayers and thoughts.

QUOTING

1) noun or phrase+(이)라고 (이 after consonants and 라 after vowels) Example: 강아지라고요! | I said “puppy”! Example: 친구는 “배고파서 먹자!”라고 했어요. | My friend said, “I’m hungry so let’s eat!”

2) verb+ ㄴ/는다고 (ㄴ after vowels and 는 after consonants)

PRESENT: Example: 저는 당신이 천천히 먹는다고 (말해)요. | I said that you’re eating slowly.

PAST you don’t need ㄴ/는 here ^-^ Example: 저는 당신이 천천히 먹었다고요. | I said that you ate slowly.

FUTURE you don’t need ㄴ/는 here ^-^ Example: 저는 당신이 천천히 먹겠다고요. | I said that you will eat slowly

3) adj+ 다고

PRESENT Example: 제가 여자는 예쁘다고요 | I said that the girl is pretty.

PAST ~었/았다고 Example: 제가 여자는 예뻤다고요. | I said that the girl was pretty.

FUTURE ~겠다 Example: 제가 여자는 예쁘겠다고요. | I said that the girl will be pretty.

**말하다 or 하다 can be added at the end of all of these, but ㄴ/는다고 & (이)라고 already indicate speech (and they can mean thoughts too, if you use 생각하다 at the end instead of 말하다) so 말하다 and 하다 are not necessary unless you want to emphasize when a person says it. Example: 저는 집에 간다고 말했어요 (I said that I’m going to my house) vs 저는 집에 간다고 말해요 (I say that I’m going to my house) vs 저는 집에 간다고 말하겠어요. (I will say that I’m going to my house)**

I hope you guys found this useful~

포스트의 끝에 저는 “열심히 공부하세요!” 라고 가끔 해요~ 그래서~ 열심히 공부하세요!!

I'm starting over on learning Korean for a trip to the Winter Olympics next year. I'm focusing more on speaking listening than reading/writing and I'm having trouble differentiating between that sounds for ㄱ and ㅋ as well as ㅂ and ㅍ. Any tips to get a better ear for the difference?

Avatar

is more of an aspirated “breathy” sound much like a hard ‘c’ in English, although it can also be described as a soft, more breathy ‘k’.

is quite similar, but it has more of a hard ‘g’ sound. Think of it like as in ‘con’ and as in ‘gone’.

is also how a hard ‘c’ has been adopted by the Korean language in words such as computer ‘컴퓨터’, and Christmas ‘크리스마스’.

Whereas, ㅍ, ㅂ I tend to use this distinction - but this is a personal opinion because I might say this differently to you (I’m English) so bare that in mind.

ㅍ: Pizzaㅂ: Busy

They won’t sound exactly like as above - but it’s a way to start understanding the differences in the consonants.

It can be very hard at times to hear the difference, but unfortunately, it’s just something that will come with time and practice as your ears attune to the distinctions. So long as you don’t mix up ㄱ and ㅋ, or ㅍ and ㅂ when spelling, it shouldn’t cause a problem.

It’s definitely not something that happens without trial and error. It is all about practice, so the only advice I can really give is to practice - a lot.

But don’t feel disheartened if you don’t notice any immediate results, developing an ear for the slight distinctions will take a while ~ and most of the time it is more often a subconscious effort than a conscious one. So don’t worry, just keep practising!
