Shattered Memo of the Day

WHY THE F*** DID HE SAY NO!

I stare at this Second with such anger and hate, I cannot even tell you. A genius like him should be working for me, not losers like Megatron or the Decepticons!

And he honorable goodie-good-two-shoes builds too many devices against us, instead seeing the invulnurablity…

Huh… like his counterpart…

I think I’ve figured out what’s bothering me the most about the new formatting.

Having nested reblogs was an easy way to determine 1) That someone else made the post and that the post you’re seeing was reblogged from someone else, 2) Roughly if you should expect to be scrolling for a while to get to the bottom of it, 3) Whether you should expect more commentary.

now everything looks like an original post

There’s no indication that there’s a whole thread of commentary on any given post

IT TAKES UP A LOT OF SPACE

If I wanted to have the forum experience I’d be on a forum?  At least then I’d be able to see how many responses are in a thread and know to expect commentary until I hit the bottom of the page?  I could SEE all of the commentary instead of having pages and pages of responses buried in the notes that it’s impossible to go through?

If I wanted something like Facebook I’d be on Facebook.

But at least on Facebook, a status has a separate format than the comments listed under it. On this, the original posts blend in with the comments, which is incredibly jarring for me. If the comments were even just indented a bit, I could probably tolerate it, but as it is now, everything just looks like blocks of texts and not a conversation at all. I feel like even just having the original post stand out would help tons. And yeah, it does make the posts longer. So the problem they were originally trying to fix isn’t even fixed.

Here is the (unofficial) XKit extension to fix post reblogs (+ instructions)

This is likely to be buggy and imperfect, and is definitely not totally optimized, but it is at least a start at fixing the atrocity that is the new reblog structure.

Your posts will look something like this:

Instructions:

REBLOGGING AGAIN BECAUSE THERE IS AN UPDATE!

Apparently whenever you added your own comment on a reblog, the script messed up. This update should fix that.

TO UPDATE YOUR EXISTING EXTENSION:

1. Open the XKit editor: https://www.tumblr.com/xkit_editor

2. On the left, click on “Open Extension” and choose “FixMyPosts” which should be near the bottom

3. Delete all of the code that shows up in the textbox

4. Go to the updated script: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=2HuZLs0i

5. Copy and paste the script into the XKit editor textbox

6. Click “Save”

PLEASE SHARE THANK YOU

UPDATE:

I noticed a few people mention the line above posts was annoying them. I added a style bit to remove that. Please update per the above extensions - I’m not sure if my update checker thing is working.

Alternatives to Tumblr if Yahoo goes any further

  1. Soup.io - well-known alternative to Tumblr. Reblogging, post types, themes, collab blogs, dashboard, artsy, great community already there. Soup can auto-import everything you’ve posted on Tumblr.
  2. TypePad - Includes reblogging. Dashboard and post types similar to Tumblr.
  3. Jux - Artful posts, beautiful blogging experience

Hey guys, if you really don’t like the update, write to tumblr. I got this reply not even ten minutes after I sent in my feedback. The staff aren’t going to pay attention to your complaints if you don’t speak to them directly. Just be civil, lay out your complaints cohesively, and maybe something will actually be done.

Dear Tumblr Staff:

I have a story to tell you, the story of Digg.

Digg was once a very popular and vibrant site. Once valued at about $200 million, it eventually sold for $500 thousand.

What caused this sudden drop in Digg’s value? About five years ago they updated the site, removing a bunch of features in a way that nobody really liked and changing the site around. They didn’t listen to what their user base wanted, and rather quickly alternatives were discovered and they were no more. It is said that their traffic dropped 25% in under a week.

And so was born reddit. Remember this tumblr, you’re not indestructable. If you continue to fuck the site up, the next “tumblr” will be born and the inevitable migration will occur.

Digg made a mistake. They underestimated their user’s willingness to jump ship and took their community for granted by going against their wishes. Don’t make that mistake, tumblr. It won’t work out for you.

There aren’t enough *puts breadsticks in purse* memes to make me stay if you go through with this destruction.

Editable Reblogs 2.0

In response to Tumblr’s formatting updates, we have made some modifications to EditableReblogs to allow continued editing of content above your additions to a post.

PLEASE NOTE!!! This extension does NOT modify how posts appear on the dash. They will still appear in the new layout; this change only affects what you can do with previous posts in the editor. We will probably be adding a separate feature to change how posts display on the dash, if desired, but that is beyond the scope of this update.

As always, we will be standing vigilant for any further developments on how this update works in the coming days. Feel free to bring questions or comments to our support chat, support blog askbox, or GitHub issues list.

guileless-second:
“To be fair, he sided with Ultra Magnus and paid the price for it. Optimus loves dealing with mutineers” There was a morbid, defeated sort of pleasure in his voice.
“Things are as good as things can be.” He grunted. “May I sit?”
He didn’t want to be here. He wanted to be home. Back in his universe, where things made sense. But he was out here to look for Megatron. His Megatron. He’d gone gallivanting out into the multiverse, shirking his duties to Cybertron and to Starscream.
“I see…”
Evil Autobots, and good Decepticons… He was definitely sure he’d never come across that part of the multiverse, and never wanted to by the sounds of things. But… if Jetfire joined the Autobots - the ‘evil’ Autobots - in that universe and paid the price, would he….?  Okay, don’t think about that…
Skyfire looked up to nod his helm at the seeker’s question, actually quite happy to have the company of someone who wouldn’t call him ‘traitor’… at least he hoped…
“I was, just asking; you just, don’t seem very happy.”

“I’m not.”

He settled next to the other, wings drooping. “I want to go home. But I am here on business...I’m looking for Megatron. Well, MY Megatron. After all, I have no interest in the comings and goings of this universe. But my Cybertron needs their king back...”

Indeed, this Megatron was set to lead Cybertron. But he’d panicked, feeling he wasn’t up to the task, and left Starscream in charge of it all. Now Starscream needed him back...
