you are trying to trick your body into gentleness into a very specific kind of kindness where you are not forced to kill everyone you touch someone once told you either in an attempt at mercy or cruelty, that the topography of violence when mapped out looks much like love and you think, this is the history of it, broken like a bad bone, the jagged slash of her mouth, how she held herself to the parts of you that were unbearable the sound of her name spoken like a flinch, something half remembered or repressed completely, the way you’ve opened yourself up to the way it hurts, like a memory of her hand against your chest,  a tender threat or vicious act of devotion
