I’ve been trying to understand why this fandom doesn’t do anything about Chelsea. She’s nasty, rude, arrogant and abrasive. She constantly attacks other bloggers and Scott and Tessa. She catfished another blogger. She enjoys creating conflict and throwing the fandom into chaos. So why does no one ever stand up to her? It finally hit me when I saw this post:

Chelsea knows her audience and she gives them what they all want. She’s passing on salacious unverified gossip. She’s the National Enquirer for Virtue Moir.  And this whole fandom thrives off of it. This is why no one says anything to her. Because we all want the gossip. Some people are more open about it than others. Some people stick their nose up in the air and block her and say they would never read her trash. But the second a whiff of new gossip comes up we all run to her blog and check out what she’s saying. Chelsea is big business in the VM gossip industry. She does what every other business tries to do. She controls the market and controls or destroys the competition. Why does Chelsea hate hashtagvirtuemoir and scottsflow? Because they’re her competition. People who can’t stomach Chelsea’s abrasiveness turn to them. But fans don’t like them as much as Chelsea because they’re not willing to go as far as she is. They’re more likable, but everyone knows to go to Chelsea for the good stuff. The stuff that no one else is brave enough to post. Is it true? Yes, no, maybe, sometimes. We don’t really even care if it’s true. It’s the National Enquirer. It’s a tiny bit of truth (just enough to be believable) mixed in with speculation, exaggeration and lies. Always written with a way out, “I think”. Sometimes she has sources (another fan, a social media account) and sometimes she just has a hunch. 

Chelsea doesn’t get paid to do this. So why does she? It’s all about power and attention and admiration. These three things go higher as her number of blog followers increases. Chelsea will do whatever it takes to maintain power.  Think of her like the mob. That’s why whenever Chelsea is challenged her trolls come out to attack. In order to maintain her power it requires that she sets the narrative and her credibility remains intact. This is why we all receive anons taunting us for believing the opposite of what Chelsea says. 

She also needs to keep the gossip flowing. What if Scott and Tessa settled down and lived happily ever after? She’d be out of business. So she needs to drum up controversy. Along come the secret girlfriends. Because there is nothing else. And once the gossip comes, it gets twisted and turned to fit our narrative and then spread like lightning through Tumblr, Twitter and Instagram eventually making its way to Scott and Tessa. 

And we, the fans, in our desperation to learn anything and everything about Tessa and Scott keep her around because we think we need her. So we put up with her constant bullshit because without her, we’d just be a boring fandom with no good gossip. 

I’m embarrassed to be a part of this fandom right now. I’m embarrassed that I too have scrolled through Chelsea’s blog in order to find the latest gossip. And I’m mortified at the effect this is having on Scott and Tessa’s life. Scott can’t stand next to another girl without her becoming his secret girlfriend. He can’t have a drink in a bar without becoming a drunk. Tessa can’t let her smile slip for one moment because it might mean she’s unhappy. We analyze, overanalyze, reanalyze every single thing. Whether it’s a shirt in Tessa’s closet, the layout of a bus, the divorce record of a secret girlfriend, a hand placement, a mall sighting, it goes on and on and on. It’s out of control. And now it’s affecting the way Scott and Tessa are able to live their lives. How do they maintain relationships with other people when that person has to be prepared to have their personal life dissected, invaded and criticized? How do they maintain a personal relationship with each other with everyone watching and waiting for it to fail.  Their only choice is to not share anything and deny, deny, deny. That is all that they can do to keep their crazy fans at a safe distance. 

The only way to stop this is to stop living and dying on Chelsea’s brand of “tea”. And as long as people want it, she’ll keep providing it. 

It won’t end until we refuse to participate. We all need to stop spreading gossip about them. Some people already do this better than others, but as long as there are people who crave every juicy scandal, lie, affair and drama and put their every thought onto their blog for people to read and reblog then it will never end. And we deserve the trash pit this fandom has become.

I do want to state, however, that I never believed this lying POS. I do not mention that to sound holier-than-thou to those that were upset by this rumor. I say it to point out that you have a choice. The power lies within YOU who and what you’re going to trust and believe.

Are you going to follow/believe/support a chaotic bully or are you going to follow/believe/support Tessa and Scott? Make your choice — because the two are mutually exclusive.

god that’s??? killing me?? she gave up her legs for him. she skated in pain for years through sheer force of will. she had t w o surgeries so they could have what they have together. she contemplated a third. she relearned to walk and move and dance to use different muscles. she was the ~healthiest ~girl ~at ~canton. she went through years of body and weight shaming for having muscles and using them. she went through the mental agony of not thinking she deserved to take the ice, like she wasn’t phenomenal and amazing and talented af. and that’s just what we know she went through. 

scott moir knows more than anyone else what tessa virtue has given up for him, for her, for them. scott knows what a smart, strong, capable, and driven athlete and woman she is. and that man loves her for all of it, is thankful for it, and never lets her forget it even during one of the most overwhelming moments at one of the highest honors of their lives.

BIG CHALLENGE: Patrice Lauzon, part of Virtue and Moir’s coaching team the past two years in Montreal, is ready to help guide a new generation of ice dance talent. But he’ll never forget the lessons he learned from dealing with the established stars.

“It’s different having somebody you took for a long time with someone who has already achieved so much,” he said Wednesday. “When they started working with us, they were already gold and silver medalists at the Olympics and world champions. You ask, how do you train an athlete like that? It was a challenge and stressful for us. If they’re not as good, then there is a lot of pressure.”

Luckily, that wasn’t a concern. The association with B2ten — which oversaw Virtue and Moir’s daily needs — provided a level of organization and preparation that few athletes could match.

“The planning was incredible. I can’t wait to have more athletes like that,” he said. “Tessa and Scott had a special connection and their personalities, which are different, make them amazing. Sometimes, it can bring a lot of fights; they are both very professional.

“Every amazing couple is like that. If they were both the same, they would probably not be as interesting.”

I’ve seen two different interpretations to Patch’s comment about Scott and Tessa’s personalities. Personally I took it to mean that their differences are the kind of thing that can bring a lot of fights, but in their case their professionalism wins out and that’s what makes them amazing. For reference, Patch also said this, last year:

“Theirs is a special relationship,” said Lauzon, who argues Virtue and Moir have found some kind of magical common ground. “They’re in the middle between being a couple and work colleagues. They are like soulmates. They never criticize or coach each other, which is the toughest thing to do when you compete together for that long.” (x)
