“... You are young to be summoning demons.”

“So? I summoned you. Now kill these people.”

“Make me a deal.”

“Kill them,” shouts the boy. “Arioch, Demon of Vengeance! What do you think you’re here for?“ The demon’s eyes narrow into amber slits.

“I only help people who can help me in return.”

“They’re murderers,” the boy screams, thrashing his mangled fists against the floor in teary rage. “They have nothing better to do than torture kids! My friends are dead, and they’ll kill me next unless you do what I say.”

“If you have nothing to offer me, I can do nothing for you.”

The boy grits his teeth, frustration seeping out on his breath like hot steam.

“Make them three additions to Hell. If you can’t, then I swear I’ll kill them and send them there myself.”

Arioch tilts his head. His massive wings hush against the basement ceiling as he crouches down before the weeping summoner.

“You are alone,” he says. “You are weak from starvation. Your hands are skinned and broken. You couldn’t kill your enemy if you tried.” The boy winces at the demon’s words. Hurt and sorrow are bitter in his throat.

”But you are a special one,” the demon continues. “Out of all your friends, you are the only brave one. You have a fighting spirit that cannot be stifled.

“There is a tear in your soul that these people are responsible for,” Arioch explains, “a gaping hole caused by trauma and loneliness. I can fill it, and I can offer you my power in return.”

The young summoner is quiet for a moment. He stops his crying long enough to lift his head.

“How does filling a tear in my soul help you?”

“It will allow me to share your body and give you my strength.”

“... How long will that last?”

“Until our goals are achieved.”

The boy hesitates, then nods and puts forth his hand to shake. The demon’s amber eyes glitter.

“Wise young man,” he rumbles, reaching forward to seal their deal. “Your vengeance will be satisfied. You will never be lonely again.”
