I made a video about everything culturally right and wrong with Mulan 1998!

What you can expect from this video:

PS when I first liveblogged this movie on Twitter, two actual artists who worked on Mulan showed up and added their commentary!

(all included on screen in the video!)

Manul cat is an automatic reblog from me.

I am porcupine.

Pretty much most cats that spend any time in trees, tbh

Honestly tho, in terms of lazy chill I don’t think anyone’s gonna beat this bear:

I was thinking about it last night, and I came to a dumb conclusion: Now that we've hit a graphical peak, where the last generation's graphics are similar or indistinguishable from the current gen, the only way to go is Larger (2K! 4K!) and Smoother (60fps! 120fps!). That said, in my opinion what should be innovated upon is the experience; you can see this already with second-screen gameplay (Wii U, NDS/3DS, potentially the PS4/Vita) and virtual reality (Rift, Morpheus, Google Cardboard).

While this isn’t really a question, it does raise a question of my own. What makes you think we’ve hit a graphical peak? Launch titles on any console have always looked about the same as the final batch of titles from the last generation, and have never been a good measuring stick for the potential to be brought out of the hardware.

Here, just take a look. A friend of mine (grapeykins) helped put together a comparison of titles from near launch compared to similar titles released near the end of the console’s lifespan for the past three Playstation generations.

Launch titles being indistinguishable from the prior generation isn’t anything new. People tend to think that we’ve hit that point of diminishing graphical returns with each successive generation, but when you look back at where you started you can see how far things have actually come.

While the hardware for each console generation might be fixed, the software and drivers that take advantage of that hardware certainly isn’t. As engineers optimize the drivers, fix bugs, and improve the programming interfaces, game developers unlock progressively more potential from the game hardware. We’ve only just begun to unlock the potential of the current generation. I think there’s still plenty of room to grow, especially with things like skin, hair, body deformations, animations, lighting, materials, reflection, refraction, etc.

I’m not saying that game developers won’t continue to innovate in other ways - my previous post shows that we have and will continue to do so (barring another global economic crisis). I’m just saying that we’re going to continue to do so in the visual fidelity arena as well.

I can't believe home depot literally produced a wildly successful science fiction musical and we all just pretend it didn't happen. on one hand yes it had a boring white guy main character but like.... home depot just... Made it? And it had shit ton of box office sales? and no one even talks about this. this is like avatar (2009) all over again

OK so. After a lot of frantic googling I realized this was all a dream. home depot did not in fact produce a wildly successful science fiction musical. I was on allergy meds and took a nap and my brain simply prophesized this. slightly disappointed because I wanted to watch it.

I know this is probably a joke/exaggeration, but:

Adults with ADHD tell stories of missing meetings or deadlines because they got so absorbed in something that they lost track of time. In one extraordinary case history, cited by Nadeau, a woman with ADHD was so focused on a project that she failed to notice that her house had caught fire. “It was only when firemen came through the house, searching for anyone left inside, that she looked up and realized what was going on,” says Nadeau. (x)

I feel this on a spiritual level.

I wonder if this is why some experience the whole “I’ve only got 2 hours until I head out, guess I can’t do anything” thing. Because they know if they start something, they won’t stop and they’ll be late

YES! Because we’ve had at least one occasion where we’ve given into temptation and it has backfired on us spectacularly!

Flemish giant bunflower

Call it Lock Down Madness but I was so taken by the sketch and overall idea of a bunflower by the talented @dimespin that I was inspired into making one. The topology called to me. Sadly it’s been… a while since I’ve tried my hand at sewing a monster…

The ears are wired for pose-ability. Lost the pale tummy in the madness of trying to make my drafted pattern work (involved inverting left and right sides as well as front and back mid-way through). Finished over the course of two weekends, it sits and looks quite cute in a slapdash sort of way. Hard to see in the photos (that ear fabric does not photograph well/flatteringly) but the two blue eyes are there still.
