one thing i have always loved about gintama characters is how they (mostly?) aren’t reduced to mere tropes. they are extremely multifaceted, and they face forward, regardless of who they used to be, or their flaws/traits/qualities/etc (be them justifiable or not), or what people may call them; all that while \knowing\ what lies deep inside them, even if they deny themselves or if they can’t figure it out yet.

they just learn how to be themselves. how to be \honest\ with themselves. thats exactly the kind of writing i need.

me: did you know that shinpachi inheriting gin's sword and kagura inheriting his kimono in be forever yorozuya could represent shinpachi looking to gin for the strength he needs to protect his loved ones and kagura looking to gin to learn to be more human? did you know that sougo's mask is sitting on the windowsill in otae's hospital room, suggesting that he may have come to visit her at some point? did you know that sacchan's breakdown at the hospital could suggest that part of the reason that she's so attached to gin is that without him, she would never have met friends like otae or tsukki or kyuubei, and the reason she doesn't cut her hair and believes that gin will come back is that she wants life to go back to the way it was when she and her loved ones were together and happy, and she associates that part of her life with gin? did you know that zura mirroring takasugi's regression after gin's death could suggest that just like shouyou showed takasugi a new way of life, gin saved zura in the same way? did you know that kagura and shinpachi falling out after the death of their mentor is suspiciously similar to what happened to shouyou's students after his death, and for gin to watch it happen to his own "students" and know that he was the cause of it was probably agonizing? did you know that enmi gin's assertion that the only person who could kill him was himself suggests not only that gin was the only one physically capable, but also the only one who would ever be willing to do it, just like gin was the only one who could be trusted to make the "right" choice and end shouyou's life? did you know that this whole movie parallels gin's choice on the cliff and its consequences in multiple ways and serves to highlight the key difference between gin and shouyou - gin's loved ones will never accept his choices at face value, and gin can look at himself through their eyes and see his own humanity, because they see him as a human being for all his flaws, not as a savior or a martyr or a sage? did you know
